I hate to be the party pooper, but I'm not impressed with her pseudo-misogynistic lyrics: WARNING RANT AHEAD

"Got bitches in the kitchen" -- cause that's all bitches are good for...besides sex.

"How you studying these hoes"
"Lost a few pounds in my waist for ya" -- losing weight for her man, another positive role model.

"You won't find a bitch that's even bett-ah"

"Girls, girls, get that cash
If its 9 to 5 or shakin ya ass
Ain't no shame ladies, do your thang
Just make sure you ahead of tha game" -- yeah! let's encourage young women to be prostitutes! hell, there ain't no shame!

And the entire song "Nothin out there for me" -- hey your man is controlling and won't let you go out with your friends, but it's OK cause you got a diamond ring on your finger -- because the only reason to GO OUT with your friends is to find men who will spend money on you...why should a woman have a life once she's already landed a man? *rolling my eyes*

"And if you want me to fight your ex-girl for you (I'm ready 2x)
If you need me to cook you meals (I'm ready)
Uh when you need a chick to come over right away (I'm ready) (Like this)
When you need me to wash your clothes boy (I'm ready)
When you need me on the phone to curse out the hoes (Suga' I'm ready)" -- How nice! she cooks, she cleans, she'll make herself availible whenever you want a piece of ass, and she'll even curse out the other women (including your baby's momma) who you're fucking on the side when they bother you!! Wow, now that's amore!!

*vomit*

Sorry, Be. I love your stuff, and you're a cool guy, but I can't back you on this one.

I've always loved her (or Timbalan's) trax, but as a lyricist I have always found her pretty weak. She makes up for this weakness with sexual shock value...which will always sell (see Lil Kim). I'm actually working the exact same formula on a singing tip with Pleazur, who has very limited talent.

Being a more or less righteous man, I can agree with you ladies on much of the lyrics that Mistress M has mentioned here, though I believe that ass shakin reference was for strippers and not prostitutes. The stuff I'm writing for Pleazur is even more sensual and sexual than Missy's, but her persona will ALWAYS be of the chick that calls the shots, independent, secure, and demanding what she is entitled to.

If I didn't do it that way my wife would kill me...heheheheh.

ya, i agree, i think missy is one of the weakest rap artists, and i'm just not interested in the stupid shit she rhymes about, but the production from timba is generally good

Mistress M

I don't think she's really calling the shots though.
To me it seems like Missy E. is just going along with what sells -- shocking sex, saying derogatory things about women, and lots of drugs. Just cause she tells guys to go down on her, doesn't mean she's calling the shots. Apparently, if her real life relationships are anything like the ones in her songs, sounds to me like she's the one being used (Cooking, cleaning, coming over for a booty call when he tells her to, having to fight with other women for his affections -- sounds like the guy is calling the shots to me).

What can I say? I was spoiled by PM Dawn's lyrics!!

sometimes the productions good.

but seriously, have you noticed how easy it is to be tagged cutting edge nowadays???

and most of said stuff has all been done before just not as commercially.

when you hear about timba's crazy absract productionn

"ahead of its time"

"pushing the boundrys"

"goes where others wouldnt dare"

im left thinking how fickle and bandwagon jumping the music press really are.

i mean c'mon, it maybe good and all but i wouldnt say it was fresh.

but as ive said many a time.

i really dont have a clue what im talking about so dont mind me.

U KNOW...I NEVER LIKED HER BECAUSE SHE WAS ALL "UP IN YOUR FACE" AND REALLY NOT THAT APPEALING TO ME. (PESONALY)

BUT.... SHE HAS BEEN IN THIS GAME FOR A LOOOONG TIME, AND PRODUCING SHYT FOR NEW EDITION, ETC.. B4 SHE WENT SOLO.
SHE IS CREATIVE. I WILL GIVE HER THAT... IF I HEAR A SOUND OR STYLE THAT I DONT PARTICULARLY CARE FOR IN THE BEGINING, BUT GROW TO LOVE IT B4 THE END, ITS HOT. PERIOD.
AS FAR AS LYRICS...WELL, U MIGHT BELIEVE IN GOD, LOVE ETC... AND JUST BECAUSE SOMEONE IS ON A PEDESTAL, OR ELEVATED BY SOCIETY, DOESNT MEAN THEY HAVE TO FOLLOW THE HERD, AND DO WHAT IS EXPECTED. I SAY, IF U BELIEVE SOMETHIN, SAY IT, AND SAY IT LOUD. IF U LIVE A CERTIAN WAY, SAY IT, AND SAY IT LOUD. MS ELLIOTT ISNT RESPONSIBLE FOR LITTLE GYRLS SHAKIN THIER ASSES... PARENTS R THE ONES WHO SHOULD CONTROL THAT.PERIOD. AS FAR AS PROSTITUTION, I DONT KNO WHERE ANYONE GOT THAT FROM THE LYRICS. BUT UH..ANYWAYZ..IM JUS PLAYIN DEVILS ADVOCATE. PERSONALLY, I DONT AGREE WITH LIL 15 YR OLD GYRLS SNEAKIN INTO CLUBS/SEX/DRUGS/ETC...AND/OR FALLIN VICTIM TO THE MAJORITY OF THE GARBAGE ON THE RADIO. BUT. TO EACH HIS OWN...LIKE THE LATE/GREAT 2 PAC SAID

..."(YOU) DONT HAVE TO BUMP THIS, BUT PLEASE RESPECT THIS (IS MY OPPINION)..."

And yeah, I do bitch alot...I'm a new yorker -- the bitch capital of the world! I mean, there's complaining and there's silence -- the only two forms of conversation!

I gotta say- Timbo is the hottest thing on the beats. I love all her beats and stuff, but personally I think MIssy sucks. No flow, no lyrics. Very creative, but I don't like it at all.

I haven't heard the new stuff, but I would only buy it for the guest appearances and beats.

(begin: I love Missy rambling and ranting)

I have looooved Missy, ever since The Rain. I cannot believe all you people hate her. She is so unique, funny and clever. She always has me laughing. And I love Timbaland too. And I think Lil Kim is funny, too.

:cuss:

I think a lot of people dislike Missy for the same reasons a lot of people dislike Madonna (another one of my favorites).

I just wish they'd stop playing Work It for one freaking minute. I liked the song till I heard it 1000 times. And that little blonde girl in that video and the Gossip Folks video reminds me of my sister. I think Missy's older videos were cooler/funnier.

Anyway. She's funny, she's catchy, she's cute, she's cool, she's clever. Whatever.
love

Wow . . . I'll grant that missy is bold and inventive, talented and unrestricted- but funny, catchy, cute, cool, and clever? Wow . . . Maybe I'm missing something . . .

Missy is alright, but I just don't feel her- her stuff just falls in the catagory that too many other rappers fall into for me- she doesn't make sense. I'm pretty critical of MCs that lack the ability to raise rap as an art form and really be creative lyrically.

Oh well, to each their own I suppose. Maybe one day I'll understand. Though I do love the Gossip Folks video! I think those little girls are awesome!

Rock on

Do we really need to analyze her album to death? It's obvious she had fun making it, and when I'm dancing in front of the mirror with her cranking from my boom box, I laugh, and become one with the groove. She's not the only rapper out there. She doesn't carry the responsibility of representing all female rappers. She only represents herself, and does it well.

Missy's dope, whatever. One, at least Tim's production on the album isn't that same ol bounce shit that's all over and got tired ages ago, and his use of samples reminds me of early Dust Brothers, in some ways, which is always good. You may not agree with a lot of Missy's lyrical content but the way she flows it all out is tight, just in my opinion, whatever. My favorite shit from her is still "the rain", damn i'm wired. bye. :weird:
