View Full Version : Question... Reality used to be a friend of mine...

Ok, the lyrics from all of the times in which P M Dawn talks about reality have helped me out a great deal. I have been going through a hard time lately and I am trying to get over it now but I have a question. I want to not focus on reality so much. I can only think of when I am writing this how stupid it sounds to say that, but for the longest time I cared about nothing but reality - ie, looking for it, seeking it, not caring about anything but it and knowing that I didn't know reality at least not in its truest sense. How can I get a good perspective on reality? Are there any suggestions as to why this might, or might not be a good thing to do (that is turning away from reality a little - in the interest of sanity and happiness)? I want insight, possibly references that I can read if anyone can shed so me light it would be much appreciated. As of now I can only be realistic, or at least I try, sometimes it makes me appear cold and heartless and I consider myself to be neither of those. I just want to still be realistic and seem more pleasant I guess, sounds stupid but it could really help my interactions with people that I find to be important to me in the future, and to those I know now. Ok, thanks for the help...

The Matrix has you!.....
No seriously though..reality is as Hiero said, your own personal reality. It and everything around us differs for each of us, our own 'perspective' if you will. One man's bliss is another's misery. It's good to escape reality in whatever form when you can (advisably not with drugs). Stepping out of yourself or your situation and taking a break and looking at it another way before jumping back in can take loads off your mind and mental state. Take a day off from everything and everyone and immerse yourself in something, playing a video game, reading a book, just driving (not while in traffic of course), go to the beach and just listen to the 'ways of the wind' and the waves. Life isn't a ride that we can board at leisure so sometimes you have to just look out into space.

"Life isn't a ride that we can board at leisure so sometimes you have to just look out into space." Really great line Tybris!
thats a good question....but a hard one to answer.
I think it in some ways involves in not sometimes looking into the harsh side of reality. Relying on some hope & well...imagination.
Accepting that reality might be harsh & cold sometimes, but realizing its the fantasy of a good life that sometimes puts in warm breath to sometimes what seems like a dead reality.

what about... "I left reality early due to the lack of love"
"reality used to be a friend of mine, cause complete control I don't take too kind"
is reality somewhat loveless in its application to life :donno: ? Is our society not able to deal with reality, meaning that those who try to see it get f*d up by everyone else screwing with them am blurring it :donno: ?
Thanks tybris and d-rib, if nothing else it was positive and inspirational, both good things

I say me and Lisa should be the stars of the next Astral.
Anyhoo.
A lot of wise ideas spread about here, but here's a few cents from me. As usual. :umm:
Firstly, you may want to quiet the mind. Your mind is creating drama and noise where there needn't be. Creating so-called "deep" questions such as "what is reality" and "should I escape reality" will only torment you into further questioning and despair, with no true solution.
If you must read any text, I might advise something of a zen buddhist nature. But honestly, you don't need any book, person, or thing to set you free. You need only to go within yourself. Do this by quieting the mind.
But what is FREE? Free of what? Free of reality? I think that what we have been labelling as "reality" is the true illusion, and that is something we need to "escape" (or simply let go of). Reading a book, taking a day off for yourself... all of these are great suggestions, but not because they FREE you of reality... but rather, they get you in touch with true reality. Which is actually bliss and nothing you would ever wish to escape from.
When I listen to Be talk about reality in his music, I find it personally inspirational, but mainly because "reality" <---.... is often in quotations, in my interpretation.
So quit thinking so much!
anyhoo.
"reality" used to be a friend of mine....?
