ok so I have reason and a brand new midi cable

and I can't for the life of me figure out how to get the damn thing to work

open reason and just load a new/empty song. go into EDIT>PREFERENCES and select your proper soundcard driver on the audio page (preferably an ASIO driver). go to the midi page and set your midi port (should be "midi in" something or other). that should really be all you need to set within reason for basic use. so close that menu dialog and rightclick anywhere in the black space in reason and create a mixer. under that, create a subtractor synth, and try playing notes on your midi keyboard. if it doesn't trigger the subtractor synth to play, then you probably have to change some settings within your midi keyboard, so look through your manual and see what it says about setting up midi. if you dont have the manual you can probably find it online, or find some basic info about it that might help..
