I have a few more to add that are VERY worth checking out (i'll limit b/c i could suggest a ton)

First....July For Kings...their album SWIM and the new downloads on the site. The lead singer runs the site, etc. nice guy.

Second..I just started listening to Course of Nature...

I've had the cd for a long time but I should have started listening sooner

hmm...also Die Trying....a mix of BLink & Good Charlotte but much better.

Also...an old group...Shades Apart and Splender...very good overall cds.....

But Splender was great! Too bad they never broke...and now they're broken up. Both of their albums were fabulous...

Sorry for reviving this topic..Carry on...

The Newest Silverchair caught me by suprise. More melodic than i'd ever thought they could be. Also Dream i checked out all those on AMG and man they gave them crummy reviews. (i bet they are still good albums....some of my favorite albums are the one's the critics hate)

Dave Davies solo work from the Kinks also is quite good.

All music's reviews dont seem to match up their star ratings sometimes. I was reading a review for the New Tesla album...and it sounds like a 4-5 star review....yet it has 3 stars. Weird. They also say on there..that PM Dawn's best cd..was Jesus Wept...yet the first cd has the higher star rating...

Strange.

i love allmusics reviews..but they do give some classic albums only 3 stars..and its very hard to get that 5 star rating...pm dawn was rated pretty high i think..

I try to go by what i hear, or word of mouth. Your right, a lot of times review are definatly not as strong as the albums.

Lol, most of the bands I like aren't always well known, but have really strong albums. Give them a try, I think you'd be surprised.

Hi all...I am always on the lookout for new music recommendations, and I will try to give all of the artists mentioned a try. I have also gotten a few new CDs recently that I would like to recommend.

I have been in a very retro mood recently, so I have been listening to new releases by many of the rock groups that I liked in the 80s & early 90s. I just got the following CDs and love them

Collideoscope---By Living Colour

Tribe---By Queensryche

Train Of Thought---By Dream Theater

Also, for anyone who likes Blues, I highly recommend an artist called Keb' Mo'....I have been totally diggin' his stuff.

In more recent music, I love the new Train CD "My Private Nation"...I especially love the current single from this album...."Calling All Angels!"

Hope you like them if you decide to check them out!

Peace,
Poetdude

The Living Colour album is outstanding. I have had it for awhile. I can't understand why it didn't garner a little more attention.

The Wildhearts first US release in 10 years "Riff After Riff" came out today. It's quite good. Their overseas release "The Wildhearts Must Be Destroyed" is an excellent cd as well.

The new tesla album (first in ten years) "Into the Now" is great. They were always a great ROCK band.

The New Push Starts (alt Pop band from Boston) is a great listen as well...

So much good music...

Word of mouth is a great way to get into new stuff you may have never uncovered ion your own.

My fiance likes Tesla i'll have to make a mention of the new album to her. I enjoy the last full length from the Counting Crows-Hard Candy. Just good music for damn fine lyrics....

I really started to get into them on This Desert Life. I hadn't realized what i was missing up until then. I consider Adam to be one of the better songwriters in our time. Fushion of great music and lyrics with a poet-esque sort of feel. Gotta dig on it.....

I like the counting crows too! I saw them in concert last july, and they were awesome!

Any fans of MAtchbox 20? They are another of my faves!!! :bigthumb:

Yeah, Counting Crows are really great in concert. I saw them on their Hard Candy Tour. I loved the 3 albums up through This Desert Life, and I liked Hard Candy OK. It had good songs and all, but not every song was really strong like the first 3 albums. But I agree with you Lum, Adam is one of the best songwriters of our time.

I find Matchbox 20 to be a little bland (sorry!). That sounds kinda mean, I know. And I'm sure the guys in the band are nice, but I usually just don't feel their music the way I feel Counting Crows.

No need to apologize here Liz. We all connect with whatever music touches us, and if you don't connect with something, then you just don't, that's all! But that does not mean your opinion is wrong or bad. I love them because they speak to experiences that I have been through. And your experiences have been different from mine, so you obviously don't get the same thing from their music as I do, and that's OK! I love many of the artist that I have seen you mention here. So it is only natural that we may disagree on a few too! :)

Peace

I've never been able to get into counting crows, just not digging his voice

And thats what i love about our forum..most of the time we can just choose to disagree but also find out about some great new or artists we didn't know we liked :)

the thing about counting crows to me is the lyrics, man they write some good songs. "Butterfly in Reverse" is awesome

I find Adam's voice to be so beautiful. He's so passionate... I can hear that he means what he sings.

Yes, Butterfly In Reverse is great.

My favorite Crow's song is "Mrs. Potters Lullaby." It's like every line is a poem unto itself. Bitter it makes me as a hobby songwriter, though.

Speaking of new sounds, I like the Indigo Girls's new album. Still can't touch their first few, but it's a very good acoustic musical jaunt. With that same mood is "The Jayhawks." For the mellow, melodic side of things.

That's my 2 cents ... :whogives:

Mrs. Potters is okay... it sounds like he is trying to do too much narrative nonsensical stuff, a la Dylan. I just don't think that's Adam's true style. I usually have a hard time buying that kinda stuff from people other than Bob Dylan, but I love Adam so he is allowed to explore his different abilities. ;)

Elizabeth

ps-- I love Catapult.

I like Amy hit the atmosphere. It sounds like a poem i'd write.

I have to agree with Wino tho Mrs. Potter's lullaby is an epic sort of song which covers great music and great lyrics all wrapped up into one hell of a yarn spun tale.

I'm a big fan of the Jayhawks -Sound of Lie's album- Hell i like all of their stuff pretty well.....
