As a lifelong PM Dawn fan, it's obvious that I'm unbelievably psyched and humbled at the same time by Be's willingness to share F*cked Music with those of us that were unable to get it when it was initially released (like me)...but for some reason, I keep getting an error message whenever I try to use my PM which reads: "The error returned was: You are not allowed to use the messenger feature on this board."

It's true that this is my second post, but I've been a member over a year since Jan 6, 2003...I was hoping that would count for something, but I guess not. Like I said, I've been a lifelong fan of PM Dawn, but I've never been much of a message board type of guy - I mainly checked here periodically to get updates on Jim Sullivan syndrome, and any other pertinent PM Dawn news.

But it's all good - I didn't realize that I had to be part of an inner circle to qualify...I just figured being a lifelong fan and admirer of PM Dawn's work was good enough, but hey, rules are rules.

Hey man, I didn't make those rules, and I DO sympathize with your position...
But there are some things you need to understand.

Firstly, when most people who have been waiting for Fucked Music (for YEARS, mind you) find out that it is going to finally be given to them by Be, they are more than happy to become more active here and make a few posts and whatnot. I mean, this is an album that they thought they would never get. It's minimal effort for a treasured item. NOT a big deal, you dig?

You don't have to be part of an "inner circle". This is not a clique, it's more like a family, and the doors are open for ANYBODY who gives a f---. This includes you. No one is barring you from posting more... you just haven't been granted the full private message privileges due to the fact that no one even knew you ever VISITED this forum until now.

I wasn't a message board person, either, until I saw that Be visited this site and that all the fans were cool people... It meant something to me to be able to converse with like-minded individuals and Be himself. Fucked is a personal work, and all of us are lucky he was nice enough to even share it with us. We are his friends. That's why he extended this recent invitation to people here (geared towards the more FREQUENT visitors, I'm sure. They've been begging Be for ages, and he wanted to give them a chance for their patience and loyalty, I think). So, feel free to become a friend too and you will get to share in Be's personal works.

People have given him too much shit about this in the past, and I for the most part kept my mouth shut 'cause I understood the frustration people felt, but this is by far THE most ridiculous complaint I've heard yet here. Life is give and take, man. You give, and you get to take. Hardly anything in life is free. And for the chance to obtain a copy of Fucked, being a part of a cool community is a very very small price to pay. In my opinion, it's nothing but win-win. So please don't bitch anymore. You're lucky, and we're all lucky. So laying a guilt trip is not at all effective.

If Be disagrees with the current rules set in place, he can definitely tell Hax about it and I KNOW such rules would be demolished. Thing is, I believe these rules are set in place to protect Be. In fact, I don't think he wants just anybody who comes around to have Fucked. It's my belief as of this moment that he wants to feel secure that the people receiving it have some truth, some loyalty, some respect... and he can mostly trust people who are a part of this family. I mean, I'm sure he wasn't planning on giving this album to someone who just wants to turn around and sell it on ebay or something. Not to say that that is you, 'cause I don't know you. But that's the point. If we don't know you, then how DO we know?

Sorry to offend you. Sorry if this seems like a clique to you. Sorry if you don't want to say hello to us a few times in order to get an awesome album. I mean, shit... if I were in your shoes and I absolutely positively hated being on forums and just did not want to be a part of one with everything in me... I think I could still summon the strength to make the bare minimum of posts in order to earn PM privileges. I didn't mean to be rude, but it just upsets me that it's not worth it to you to have something so small expected of you in order to get something in return.

None of us are in a click here, and I myself don't post as much as many of the others here, BUT I do make the effort to be a part of this family and get to know everyone. We have had alot of recent newcommers which is cool, and the same thing applies to them. No one said, you or they couldn't have it. But if you want it, then you have to prove to Be himself that you should have it. Hell I don't even have my own copy of it. We all love Be, we all love PM Dawn, and we all love and respect each other. Not a bad thing, especially considering other message forums out there. The fact that Be takes the time to post and offers something to his fans (for free, I believe)...it's not asking much to just come hang out and get to know him and us..for the priveledge to get something MANY PM Dawn fans will never see (some of us here still don't have it) is not asking that much. It's an awesome album that, as Liz said, is very personaly to Be, so chill out, read some post, make some posts and maybe you'll get it. AND YOU HAVE TO REMEMBER THAT WHO GETS IT IS ENTIRELY UP TO BE, NOT US, POSTS OR NOT.

We definatly consider it a privledge. I've been emailed at least once a week or more since it came out to get copies to people. We take it seriously and the respect we have for being friends with Be. People have offered me the biggest things, money,etc. Its just not something that money/gifts can buy....truely.

Just hang out, became part of our crowd and just enjoy pm dawn, and right...the fact that Be even bothers to post to us on here at all.

I certainly didn't become a member of this board to stir up any trouble - I was just expressing some frustration at the rules that were set in place. Nothing personal, and no disrespect was meant towards to Elizabeth, PM Dawn, the members of this forum, or the moderators that are in charge. I really mean that, so hopefully that will be taken sincerely.

However, I have to admit that I'm little bummed about some of the comments in Elizabeth's post, and I feel that some things were said that should be responded to.

Yeah, I dig. I understand that many people have been waiting for years for Fucked Music - I should know, because I am also one of those people. It's not like I did a google search on PM Dawn last week, found this forum, and then thought to myself "Cool, they're giving away free CD's! I'm always down for getting some free music!" Like I said before, I am a true lifelong fan of PM Dawn, and just because I don't post regularly on a message board does not make me any less of a fan than you or anyone else here (no, I'm not saying that you said that in your post, but I felt that needed to be said anyway). You're right though, you don't know me, so I should probably share a little background about me, and why I care so much PM Dawn and potentially listening to Fucked Music. I'm a former college basketball player, and unfortunately, my senior season was cut short by a congential heart abnormality. After spending a long time in the hospital wondering whether or not I would live or die, and truly almost giving up on everything, it was my collection PM Dawn CD's that gave me, what I felt, was divine inspiration to fight through all of the tests, treatments, and uncertainty about my future to keep fighting no matter what. Even though it was five years ago last January, I can still remember the sound of the lyrics of "Faith in You" playing in my beat-up Sony Walkman (sorry if this all sounds cheesy, but I'm trying to keep it as real as possible),
"So if no one else believes in you
I'm completely yours, and I've got so much faith in you
No matter what this life puts in front of you

Those lyrics were like a divine mantra to keep me going when even most of the doctors truly believed that I would die. So, to make a long story as short as possible, the happy ending to all of this is that I beat the odds, I'm still here, and most importantly, I'm in the best health of my life (even better than my college athlete days a few years back), and I feel that was in no small part to PM Dawn's incredibly powerful, inspirational, touching, and most of all, personal music. Well anyway, the point of sharing all of that wasn't to bore you, but I wanted to make it clear that although I don't have over 1,000 posts on this message board that I still have as much love and respect for PM Dawn's music (if not more) as anyone else here. So to answer your question - yes, I do understand that making a few posts to get such a treasured item is hardly a big deal, but when I posted earlier, I was frustrated with a rule that I felt might exclude me from listening to an album that I really hoped to listen to solely because I didn't post here more often...that's all.

That's pretty harsh. Where in my previous post was I giving anyone any shit? I didn't feel that my last post was ridiculous or insulting to anyone. When I said in my last post, "rules are rules" - that wasn't said sarcastically...the rules are in place for a reason, and I 100% respect that. But yes, I was frustrated, because I feared at the time that I could possibly miss out AGAIN on the opportunity of a lifetime to get to listen to this album. So when I read your initial post that said "That's a privilege that, at the moment, is only for people who've posted a little more than you have" I initially felt like this message board was like an "inner circle" that I would have to work my way into in order to prove my worthiness as a true PM Dawn fan. It's entirely my fault that I made that misinterpretation, and for that I am sincerely sorry.

I still do feel that I was within my rights to express my frustration, and I have to admit that I didn't think it was too cool to be dismissed with "please don't bitch anymore." I didn't feel like anything I said my last post was "bitching" about anything, and never once did I say that I had a problem posting more often and being a more active member of this community - so I'm not sure where that came from. I know that one person doesn't represent an entire community of people, but that kinda left me with a bad taste in my mouth. But regardless of that, I'm still in a tough situation, because now if I attempt to post more often, it's going to appear that I'm only doing so to get my hands on Fucked Music as opposed to getting to know the community here. But that's my problem, and I don't want to make it seem like I'm bitching about it.

Bottom line is regardless of how much of a fan I am of PM Dawn, what stuff I went through earlier in my life, how many CD's I own etc...I completely understand that it doesn't mean that I should somehow be entitled to listen to Fucked Music - not only would that be incredibly self-centered, but it would also be as pretty silly as well. It's not my call to determine who is deserving to get to listen to this, and I will respect whatever rules are in place to ensure Fucked Music always ends up in the right hands.

hey, be, i know this is my first post, i have been a fan since i heard paper doll, i have approx 30 cd's records of yours, and pick up any that i dont have any chance i get. i had hearda few years ago that you were making this album, while i was at a friends pc on your site. i had no cash at that time, being i had just had a baby and all. then about a year ago i read a post and noticed that it was no longer available. i was dissapointed, but upon hearing this news, i am going crazy!!! thanks so much!! i tried to p-m you, but it wouldnt let me for some reason...no puns intended lol! so, i dont know what to do, but i am willing to do whatever i have to to hear this album... from what ive seen its an incredible set. i would appreciate anything that you, or anyone can do to help me get this.
p.s. the jim sulivan story post was very interesting, and as far as depression... jus keep on keepin on. im coming out of mine i think now, after 2 yrs.. my parents split after 30 years, and i dont care how young or old one is, that hurts, alot..plus my daughters mother did some pretty horrible things to me, including taking my daughter away, without letting me know where they went...i have since found out where they went, and i now see my daughter on a regular basis..but i guess, what im trying to say is, i woke up everyday last summer just wanting to gouge my eyes out, so i wouldnt have to see any of this 'stuff'... but i dont think we as humans were made this strong to just fall apart. the state of music right now i so 'whore'-like, so cheap, so dirty...it needs real music, you and your brother made' real' music... heck, my father is 50+ yrs old, and he really loves your music as of new...and he vists goes through my collection, and asks to borrow your albums, and like me, if he likes the artist/album, he goes and buys his own copy.. sorry abouit rambling, but i really feel where you are coming from with depression, and i felt as though i should try and give a little inspiration.

As for the rant, well, there's been a lot of crap that's happened, that's true. Have a lot of people been with Be and JC through a whole lot? yeah. Am I among them? I hope so. Are you? Well, it sure seems like it. So my question is why the yelling? Did it serve a purpose? Is Be *obligated* to give anything to anyone? I think not. He's doing it because he likes us and knows us. Have you given us all a chance to know you?

My 5 year old daughter, 3 year old son, and I made a pact the other day (Sunday evening, in fact). If they listened to me when I told them to do something, I wouldn't yell. If, however, I yelled without trying to talk first, or I yelled at them for no good reason (as determined by Mom), then I got a time-out. A time out has now been described as such: standing in the middle of the living room without talking and moving. If you talk, or move, it starts over. The length is equivalent to your age in minutes. So today (my birthday no less), my time out length is 29 minutes. Standing still not moving or talking for 29 minutes is a heck-of-a long time (for me anyways).

So, and take this for what it's worth, you need a time out in the middle of my living room. You didn't list your age, so I'll use mine.

Let me start this off by saying that I am by no means saying I agree with going against Be's wishes when it comes to his music.... That is a non-issue for me, right at this moment. If Be is disrespected, then we should be sensitive to HIS feelings and HIS wishes about things, for sure.

But, let me also add that I CAN see where Thaprince is coming from on the more emotional levels, and I think he was right to feel some of the emotions he has felt about some things.

I'm not sure if I'm sympathizing with his frustration more than his actual position.... but whatever it is, I sure felt it. The sentiment of things not seeming equal here is understandable, and I feel like people have consistently denied it.

Take me, for instance. Just a few weeks ago, I told that SRich guy off about how we were not a clique but a family.... only to end up with hurt feelings myself soon after. I started to wonder at that moment if I was wrong all along, and if SRich was right. Was I blind? Was I in the dark, just because I had been treated wonderfully up until I felt offended and felt a need to speak up? If I was in the dark and I had the feeling of losing favor among my friends, then it can surely happen to any one of you... even those of you who tell Thaprince that he is wrong right now, to feel a certain way about this forum. You could be the one who, in a few weeks, has a disagreement that turns sour and shows you a new and unlikeable reality. I'm not talking about banning, but just plain old not being heard or not being liked or not being treated as an equal. Right or wrong, this is how I am feeling in my heart right now. With most sincerity. I'm sorry if this hurts anybody.

It just appears to me that anytime someone is ticked off about something.... if they are not a forum darling, they are more likely to get bitched out by the 'Friends' here, than to be treated as an equal human being. With fairness. If the emotions he expressed in his posts were expressed by some of the faves around here, then I do not think for one second that Thaprince would have been talked to by some of you guys the way that he was. I mean, to me it feels like I'm in school again... like elementary school, when the "cool" kids got away with almost anything and the "dorks" got laughed at for anything. It doesn't feel that great.
Just a thought. I mean, just based on observation of what some people are and are not able to get away with around here. Of course, I understand any anger towards his disrespect of Be. That is again-- a non-issue. It is the feelings he has expressed that have been belittled which I am having a problem with.

Harm... I know you love your kids, and you're probably a great dad. You can probably agree with this-- it really sucks when people who are not rotten parents get condescended to by other parents with anecdotes of how *they* do things, almost as if it should be a lesson to them. Especially when you suggest that a peer parent of yours take a time out. He's upset, he's a human being, he has feelings... let's deal with the feelings maturely and not sentence him to punishment or groundation. I just don't feel like we should talk down to each other, that's all. Sorry, again... not wanting to hurt feelings.

I think part of this whole thing is just me still having some hurt feelings here, and when I read Thaprince's post, it really brought those feelings to the surface. So, I had to ramble and vent it out... 'cause obviously, to me, there are still feelings that are unresolved. The bottom line is..it's Be's music to do with as he pleases...NONE of us influenced or even suggested any of how he has decided to distribute the album to him. You make music yourself, how would YOU like it if somebody took some song of yours and distributed it AGAINST your wishes? I know as a music creator myself...when it happens to me (and it has) I feel VIOLATED! It's like a rape! Yet, not only did you do it, but you rubbed it in his face!

Now, as if to further show your disrespect, you actually have come here and demanded to be given the album again, even after you admit to having stolen it the 1st time! Seriously, as a music creator yourself I am really shocked that you think that you have the right to dictate to a fellow artist what they should do with their art.

If you knew a girl that you had made love to several times in the past, but she decided to turn celibate...would you demand that she have sex with you because you loved her so much? Newbies cannot use the PM function...this is a matter of software. Beeing a Newbie is based on post count, not on time as a member.

"Friends" status is an elective thing that is decided by the admins. Yes, I guess it is cliqueish when you think about it. Maybe since so many are down nowadays about this being a family we should do away with it all together. After all, the only added benefit is being able to go to the Coz's Pub forum...which peeps hardly do anyway. The only reason we even added another level was because Be was worried about the content here being too adult and his son Christian was starting to frequent the forums. So we created the Pub to contain the more adult content and restricted membership in order to protect Christian...that was the only reason!
As a matter of fact, we didn't even have the official "Friends" title until we recently changed the forum software! Which brings me to...

Jonbonson/thaprince's contention that who received Fucked Music was based on number of posts IS A LIE!!! Be wanted to give the album to people that HE felt were his FRIENDS! ONLY BE made that decision on who those people were, and ONLY BE knows what criteria if any were involved in making that decision. Proof of point, Ellehcimevoli had 1 of the highest post counts here, and had "Friends" status, but Be didn't give him the album...and Elle respected Be's wishes anyway!

Now, Be is the ONLY person who is deciding what criteria if any is involved in who gets the album now! He said send him a PM, but maybe there are other ways that he will send it to you...only he knows. I stated my OPINION when I said that if you're only here to get the album... you PROBABLY won't get it. I, for 1, remember Tshaw quite well from the chatroom, in fact he helped me tremendously when I switched to Windows XP. If it was up to me he would get the album...but it's not.

The bottom line is this...being a Newbie is based ONLY on post count and simply means that you can't use the PM function. IT DOES NOT MEAN THAT YOU CAN'T GET FUCKED MUSIC!!! If you want to PM, post more...otherwise we can't help you.

As for FUCKED MUSIC...that's soley and entirely up to BE...and we can't help you there AT ALL!

NONE OF US ARE ENTITLED TO ANYTHING!!! Shit, I put out the 1st PM Dawn record, and was partially responsible for their deal on Gee Street, and I was 1 of the last people here to get it. For God's sake, have some fukkin respect! :slap:

Obviously, you have absolutely no concept of intellectual property.

It is Be's music that you obtained illegally and without Be's permission. Here's some personal background to see if I can bring things into a bit of perspective. I was on the old forum, yes, yes I was. I had first got in contact with Brian, when I found the site. It pissed me off to no end that I had found the place, right freakin after the album was no longer available. I tried to get a copy, even asked for it to be burned for me. I of course got a personal response from Be himself and a few others about asking for someone to burn it. Out of respect and being a newb to the place I of course ceased all attempts to procure it in that manner. At the time, it wasn't clear if it was going to be sold again, so I just waited with baited breath. Time passed, the forum changed, people came and went. I got to know the people round here and Be, often chatting with everyone in the chatroom. When the album was finally offered again, I was like..OH YES!!, and I PM'ed Be with my information and thanked him for the chance to get it again. At that time, there was no 'friends' status, he said those that he felt were his friends and wanted to have it. Did I get it, no I didn't. Was I sad, that I didn't get it, yes I was. Did I bitch about it, no..no I didn't, because it was Be's right to give it to who he felt he wanted to. I'm not in the music business, but I understood why he couldn't give it out anymore commercially, and why he only wanted certain people to have it. Before I go any further for those of you that don't know..I still don't have it..my own copy that is. Have I heard it..of course I have. Now, I appreciate the fact that jon(thaprice) admitted that he was wrong and apoligized, but what I think he is searching for is why he didn't deserve it once it was offered again. Well, like I said, I have talked to Be in chat, just as many of the rest of you, but I felt that even though I felt that Be considered me his friend he didn't know me personally well enough to give me the album. As far as being worthy of it then not being, that's not the case exactly. He offered it to everyone commercially per say, but then had to pull it for what ever the reasons(irrelavant..period). When HE decided to offer it to those he felt close to, it had nothing to do with the fact that it was previously available to everyone. He could no longer have it free floating out there for just anyone to have, but still recognized that his friends and those he felt close enough too missed out. If you feel slighted by the fact that Be didn't feel close to you..tough..so did I, but you can't make someone feel close to you just by chatting with them or posting on their fan forum. Skip forward to today, or at least when Be offered to give it out again. Like he said, he didn't give any stipulations as to who would and wouldn't get it, he just said PM him..and he's already given his response to not being able to PM. Me, I didn't bother because I don't need it anymore, having one to listen to now (still not my own). If you're problem is with the fact that you can't PM, you could have posted and said, hey Be..I can't PM..is there any other way I can send you my information..plain and simple, leaving it once again, his judgement call as to who gets it. There are people here that are 'friends' as far as the posting goes that still don't have the album for whatever reasons, but we deal with it. I think we all have a hunger for PM Dawn music, hell I've had each cd at least 2-3 times cuz I play them so much and carry them with me all the time, not to mention before cd when I had each tape like 2 times cuz I wore them out. Do I feel I've earned a copy of F'ked..you know what..no I don't actually. For all the time I've spent here and talking with Be and others only Be can tell me when I've earned that right to get it or any other album or song he puts out and gives only to those he feels close to. Now if you still don't understand why you couldn't have it when it was offered the first time, then I don't think we can help you understand.

First of all, I'm figuring that the main reason that you just can't get to understanding the concept of intelectual property is you don't make a living from your music. Perhaps if you relied on your music to eat you would have more respect for the wishes and feelings of the next man who has to do the same.

To answer the exact question that you posed, if you already posess the song in mechanical format (CD, Tape, Vinyl, whatever) then when you transfer it to another mechanical format FOR YOURSELF you are archiving it...which is fine. HOWEVER...if you do it for somebody else, who has not already purchased the EXACT VERSION of the song in question, YOU ARE ILLEGALLY DISTRIBUTING IT! I've got other news for you...you can sing the song as much as you want...but if you sing it in public YOU ARE LEGALLY SUPPOSED TO PAY!

Now...let us try to take the case at hand in a more monetarial sense, maybe that'll help. Here we have a situation where BECAUSE OF LEGAL ISSUES an album has to be pulled. Still, this is an important and very personal album to the artist for many reasons...and though the fine for each copy that is found to be illegally distributed is $50,000.00 per...he still decides to share it with his FRIENDS! To back himself up as much as possible he no longer accepts compensation for the album...which would make the case FELONIOUS...and sends it only to people that he feels he knows and TRUSTS!

Now, think about if YOU are that artist and somebody who has helped to jeopardize your livelyhood and freedom now comes at you to brag about it and berate you for having the gall to try to cover your ass by giving this album only to your friends...would YOU feel kindly towards this person? Would YOU feel that you owed this person anything...even an explanation?

Quick summary. The album was no longer available. The album's owner said he was willing to share it with a couple of friends. You said that you were not willing to be his friend, but he should give you the album anyway. The album's owner declined to do so. You managed to get a copy of it from somewhere else, then got in the album's owner's face and bragged about it and berated him. The album's owner said "get outa my face" and you were banned. You sneakily find a way to get back in and reapproach the album's owner...but are foiled because your new identity can't send PMs yet. Then you say "AHA, I'm the same guy that berated you before, and I still don't wanna be your friend, but I'm a big fan of your music so I deserve to have the album anyway!"

This is the last I'll say to you on this subject. I, probably much like you, have very little problem with MP3s. I have actually taken some of my music and turned it into MP3 myself and distributed it for free. I feel flattered and honored when I see the vast amount of MP3s of my stuff that's out there. Hell, I've even found stuff that I produced and no longer have copies of and hadn't heard for years on MP3. I reserve my hatred for those...and there are many...who are bootlegging my shit or have it on compilations without my permission or compensation.

BUT THAT'S ME!

My only reason into going through all of this with you is because I have respect for all of us who would try and enter the perfidious struggle that is the music industry. If you remember, I too gave you some long and well thought out advice on the industry eons ago. The fact that Be had helped you out when you were going through a dire time of need, and you still felt it nescessary to disrespect him the way you did, regardless of how you felt about it...I'm sorry, but it says something about your character.

I never liked Puffy either, as an artist I think he sux, as a business man I can't fault him...well..except for the whole making the band thing..those guys suck hard core. I still find it funny how PM Dawn got dissed for sampling and now EVERYONE and their dog does it..and over does it and it's so blatant, they hardly do any reworking of a lot of things. At least in my opinion when PM Dawn samples a track it's more like an artist at work, molding and scultping it into something new and more original sounding. If I recall, didn't Erick B and Rakim get flack for sampling too back then. PM Dawn fan aside, there is so much trash out there these days because some cat has a sound board, mixer and a sampling machine and thinks they are an artists..I can sample Mona Lisa's smile because I have a canvas and some paint, but that doesn't mean it's going to get hung in a gallery and be called art now does it?

i think theres a diffrence be in the way you sample and the way puffy rips. you take the sound and intigrate it puff takes the sound and just changes the words. gets old after about one riff of the song. theres not much difference in puffy and todays mesh-ups. by the way my best friend lost cross pink guitar in nashville a few years ago eheheh. i got a good sample toto's africa. ive been messing around with it for awile

If you're talking about vocals, yeah...though I would argue about "Set Adrift" and "True", which is an all-time classic. However, we were talking about music production and sampling, and aside from adding a beat...which is EXACTLY what Puffy and the rest of the generic sampling producers do...what else was done to those 2 tracks that was so special? :confused:

It's not about just one or two tracks but in the music as a whole, at least for me. Production wise they may have been produced in similar fashion but PM Dawn as a whole vs Puffy as a whole, there is more artistry in the production than in Puff's stuff, again in my opinion. Now I'm talking his stuff only and not stuff he's produced for other artists. Of course vocally Puff can't compare to Be, but then Puff's not a singer, not much of a rapper either if you ask me. There are plenty of other people I think are very artistic in the way they sample a track or loop or snippet, just think there are tons more that aren't.

My 2 cents are here as follows. I am drunk as shit now, let that be heard. Listen, Be makes great songs! Puffy makes songs that make you want to buy albums. I enjoy BOTH. I love PM Dawn, for their message and they are so astetically pleasing artistically. I like Puff Daddy, Diddy -> for all of his great songs that he had produced, for-saw, over-looked, and added too. Be makes songs meaningful regaurdless of the beat, and they are WITH A GREAT BEAT! Puffy makes good to great songs on every cd he puts out on his label, which makes him better than most of the people out there.

There are very few PM Dawn song that I don't like. Even if I don't like the beat a message protrudes it all. A message more important usually than the song itself. VERY FEW other artists are like that, truely, so that is why I like them.

Puffy is still good and a genius, reguardless of anyones thoughts, including mine. Time will write that story without us(and time will put Puffy there). But PM Dawn is Better, haha, it is true :rock: :rock: :rock:

most of my beef with puff has to do with his singing/rapping/making an appearance. most of his beats are good, and he definitely excels when others are on the mic. far as the sampling, i dunno. It seems to me the songs he hits big with are samples of much more famous songs than samples others have used. ie. i'll be watching you. and he has also sampled his share of songs that shouldn't be sampled, like that garbage he did for godzilla that was a dead copy of 'led zeppelin - kashmir' and also the one he did that he rapped right over the instrumental of 'luniz - i got five on it'. i think j-lo used that track at the same time too... i think part of the art of sampling is picking out songs that you know you know, but can't quite remember what it is. or maybe i'm just young and don't know my old music well enough...

i'm on a big kanye west kick right now, cuz i think he's come up with an original and quite different way to play with samples in his songs. most of his beats really have impressed me.
