I was woken up promptly at about 7am this morning after going to sleep at 4:30 because a server was going nuts with a load of 127.00 to break that down into simple terms it's so fukin high I had to wait about 3-5 mins for my logon request to go through so I could save it, the normal load is between 1.00 and 3.00...so anyway after a quick look it's the http://www.dubaidesertclassic.com website which is the golf tournament running this week in Dubai. This damn thing has Tiger Woods and a list of other big names, sponsors like Dell, CNN, etc. Well the problem is this site has gotten in the area of 700,000 hits in 2 1/2 days and it's bitchslapping the server it's on because he failed to warn us about this in time. The shit hit the fan around Sunday he called Monday to tell us the site needed to be online 100% for this week which was such short notice that we couldn't move him to a private server in time, so we decided to ride it out...he said he expected to get about 500k hits over this week and he's done about 700k in 3 days. The major fukk up to all this is he is on a shared server with about 200 other customers on there, and you can't do this kinda load for one site on a shared server.

So now I sit here watching the load and I jump in to control it when it spikes up too high which is about every 30-45 mins or so, but it only takes about 30-45 seconds to spike and lose control. I'm roaming around on wireless network so I can watch this damm thing, and still be free to move. After all this shit he had two options $100 a day to have a tech watching the server, or buy a server for the month and run off of that. He went the server route since it was a bit cheaper. I have now put in a request for a emergency monster server to move his site to right in the middle of all this shit, so I'm sitting here waiting on the email about the new server and watching TV having nervous attacks :ohnoes: :ohnoes: :ohnoes: every time I see something about the golf tournament thinking OMG that poor server.

A day in the life of hax    :ohnoes: :ohnoes: :ohnoes:  :bigthumb:

these aren't mine, I'm contracted to manage these servers. I'm funneling all of that money into my company. I'd kill for about 10 of my own signups right now.

Hopefully when I get back and upload the site to search engines it'll generate some action for ya. :) ;)

relax time...several hours ago I seamlessly moved his site to a private server with no service outage between the move...damn I'm good

his new specs on the private server are 2.8Ghz P4 800Mhz bus with hyper threading, 1 gig of ram and a 80gig hard drive...that server has yet to break the 1.00 mark with an average load of about .50 under load. I think I have him all set...I can sleep good tonight...so who wants a website? :bigthumb:

Having quite the day myself.

Imagine this....you're implementing a $1000000 software package that sold your company on the fact that its a global application, only to find out today that it doesn't support Asia/Pacific character sets.

:bash: :bash: :slap: :slap: :bash: :slap:

I really need to get out of here....

We all know that A-Pac is it's own little world anyways. If it's not in the low or high ASCII range who needs it?

/me mumbles as he goes back to implementing stupid idiotic unicode controls at work to make our Japanese and Korean customers happy
