always awesome to watch.
They did things SO much better back then, as much as I'm addicted to my computer....the stuff was built and looked real...it was awesome.

Depp holds the work that Gene Wilder did as a pretty high standard(which i thought was good--because i'm a huge Gene Wilder fan) I am hopeful that it's different in enough ways but also can become as classic as well. I think they wish to make it quite a bit darker.

The book is dark as hell, one of the darkest children's books I know. I guess that's why I hated the movie so much.
I fuckin loved that book.
Can't really remember much now though.
But I been keeping an eye on the new one too.
Looks like it might be cool

That's just it FD...I fukkin loved the book in all of it's darkness! Then they had to go and make this fukkin cutesy movie and even make Willy Wonka the main character instead of Charlie and his grandfather and it just turned me off.
So yeah, I'm really lookin forward to seein' what Tim Burton and Johnny Depp do with it...should at least be a good bit darker. ;)
Yeah I feel ya
People are like oh that movie is quite dark, especially the tunnel they go through in the boat and I'm like man, you ain't knowin.
But I can barley remember the book either.
I'll have to read it again sometime.

i loved the book..and the movie was one of my favorites as a kid.. i think on its surface the movie its cutesy..but beneath that its quite twisted..thats why i love it..
tim burton, if its anythin like his remake of planet of the apes it will be disappointing..
and u cant beat gene wilder!

I can't say I've ever read the book. Its definatly light in the movie, almost strange. you can see the no so kids storyline there.
Thats cool..i'm not a big gene wilder fan but I do think he did a great job. Depp is one of the few actors I could see being able to fill a role like that, widley accepted just a lil tad strange enough to pull it off.

Yeah, it's been well over 30 years since I read the book...but I still remember the very dark feel of it. I also remember the that the oompaloompas seemed a hell of a lot scarier! And the songs they sang were far from that cutesy shit in the movie!
"Augustus Gloop, Augustus Gloop, that big fat ugly nincompoop!"
Nuthin cutesy about that! Heheheheheh...

I think it was the great glass elevator. I think i might have to reread those books. I am hopeful Mr. Burtons remake far exceeds the crap which was Planet of the Apes.
