Hey guys.
I just got a new job! I now work for my school! I am an instructor.
I teach Phlebotomy! And I order supplies.
I have two jobs and I am attending school.
( I attend class at the same time I instruct phlebotomy on tuesdays.)
I still have a habit of letting the patient diagnose him/herself.
Dr. Morris thinks I should be more assertive in my diagnostic approach.
I realize that he is CORRECT!
If anyone is going to be in Arlington, TX any Tuesday until
December, stop in and I will give you a free demonstration!

1. Getting into medical school- Mucho Dinero (Lets just say my loan payment will be more than my car payment!)

2. Being the ONLY Student/ Teacher- $6.00 an hour

3. Getting paid to go to class...... PRICELESS!!!!

First of all

CONGRATULATIONS!!! :bigthumb:

Second of all, for whatever it's worth some advice coming from a fellow student/instructor...

1. Be prepared for a lot of work; depending on how many students you have and the number of lesson plans/assignments/projects you have to grade as well as all the work you are responsible for in your classes it can become overwhelming.

2. Be prepared for the "negotiators", being a young student/instructor your students are going to try to get over on you (bullshit excuses, cutting up in class, not taking things seriously) or try things in your class they would not otherwise try in other classes. There is a tendency to want to be the "cool" instructor, or the friend, but trust me it only complicates things. Be firm yet understanding, but always put your foot down.

3. Be prepared for the "intimidators", again because of your youth some students are going to feel if they push you enough you will give in to them, I'll bet at least one will not be happy with his or her grade and will want to talk to the dept head, be sure you know all the procedures involved and your rights as an instructor. Usually when they see that you are not afraid and/or intimidated by them they will back off.

4. Be prepared for the "cassanovas/cassanovettes". When I was an undergrad the idea of approaching a professor for some romantic purposes was absurd, but it happens...boy does it happen. Again there are probably some rules in your handbook telling you how to deal with it, just be prepared when it happens.

5. And lastly, be prepared for the other older instructors who don't respect you because of your age and status as a student. You've paid your dues, just because you don't have as many years under your belt doesn't mean you are less qualified...hey you would not have gotten hired in the first place if they didn't think you could do the job and do it well.

Ok that's my 2 cents...CONGRATULATIONS again and best of blessings.

FOX you are SOOOOOOOOOOOOO right!
I got hit on for a grade.
I felt all... Well lets not get into that! ;)
I have every situation you named flying at me!

I even have a Hater/Instructor. He told me I was a liar when I informed him of my new position and the reason I had a class in the Medical lab last wednesday.
His words. Nice to meet you Kevin. How about you stop lying to me and take the rest of your class out....... I had to stop class and go find the Med Prog Dir. and have HIM inform "Spit" that I am who I am and that I do have the right to reserve a lab. Since being embarrassed
in front of his superior for NOT reading the memos that were sent out
to all instructors and not attending my "Welcome to Our staff, Here are your Keys..."
party.
Now he tells his students that the school must be on a budget because they are hiring "Unqualified instructors to teach vital subjects."
And that my lack of "Real Experience" will cause them to fail in the real world if They enroll in my class next semester.
I lodged a formal complaint with the Med Prog Dir. and I am waiting to see if anything can be done.
So far I am the cool teacher because I have NO fear.
The students like my approach. I am Firm and fair.
But I am also strict. If you don't do the work you fail. That simple.
You know if you should pass or fail after you do your work.
So do I. I will fail you and keep on smiling if you warrant such action.

I'm glad things are working out for you, and I hope you get things settled with that other instructor. As for me, I'm counting the days 'til the end of this semester. I was offered a contract for next semester and I turned it down. I let the workload whip me. Anyways gotta finish tomorrow's lesson plan and do my Evidence homework (it never ends :banghead: )

Whoa!
The workload is one of the BEST parts!!!!
If you can handle your claswork, Lesson plans, grading papers
and the occasional assault buy the "misunderstood" student,
you can handle anything else the REAL job will throw at you.
HOLD ON FOX!!!!! You can make it!!!!
Think of the Maybach..... Better yet think of Eddie......
How impressed he will be with the Credentials..... Ooooooohhhhh!!!

Oh. Problem SOLVED!

SPIT and I were both given a "lecture" on class and school etiquette.
He was informed that anthing he says in the way of what he was spouting is not only INCORRECT, but also harmful to the school.
The DEAN explained to him that student/instructors are NOT
brought on staff due to lack of "qualified" instructors, But due to thier particular knowledge, motivattion and Capabilities.
(Not to mention Dynamic personality) Yes, for 2 hours a night I am IN CHARGE. Only during the allotted time for me to teach a section of our curriculum. ( Phlebotomy ) Why? Because a QUALIFIED DOCTOR
(Not just a person with a PH.D, But also a practicing physician.)
and instructor says I have skill at the required objectives and I get along well with all of the students.
I apologized to SPIT for being an Arse to him and purposely avoiding
the lab during his sessions. He accepted and left.
Done.
