Hi guys. My name is Dan and I'm from Philly. I had the honor of working with Prince B and Jarred from 1992-1993. It was, by far, the most fulfilling experience of my life (outside of becoming a father). I learned and experienced so much because of these guys. They were super stars who treated me as an equal and I will forever be grateful and have enormous respect for them. If your reading this Prince, Buck-em-Dan is in the heeezy. I'd like to hear from you so we can catch up. I miss you alot my talented brother. To everyone else who loves PM Dawn, your love is not misguided. This group was so innovative and hard working it inspired me to always give my best and don't be afraid to try different things in life. Man I have some stories ... N e way. Holla @ your boy! Peace.
Dan

Thanx for the warm welcome guys. I have so many to tell but I think I have to clear a few w/ Prince b4 I go on ranting ;). Here's a funny one that I think you'll like (I sure did @ the time):
It was Earthday @ Hollywood Bowl in 1993. It was a huge show with Paul McCartney headlining and this particular show was being broadcast live on VH1. Other artist like Don Henley, Sinead O'Connor and Ziggy Marley were also on the bill. By this time I have developed a friendship with Prince that superceded my role as SoundTech so, being the opportunist that I am, I was untilizing my all access back stage pass to the fullest (groupie fest!). I hated to be one dimensional so on this Earthday I took the opportunity to sneak my way onto stage with Paul and the rest of the artist, at least 20 in all, to sing "Hey Jude" to close out the show. Take into consideration that I was a 22 year old brother from "tha hood". I wasn't so far displaced that I didn't know that this man was a Beatle and, in his words, "Bigger than Jesus Christ" in their prime. So I anxiously make my way up to the front of the stage and find a place right next to Paul. Next thing I know, Paul has his arm around me and I'm singing Hey Jude with a Beatle embracing me...Wow. Thank goodness this song only had like only 13 words in it and 11 of those were the same word (na, na, na, na, na). So half way through the song Paul calls out a special guest...low and behold Ringo Starr comes out. So now I am at the front of the stage, in front of the main mic with Paul Mc Cartney to my right and Ringo Star to my left and I am being embraced by both of them in the middle. I know...wow again. Meanwhile, I keep seeing Paul looking @ me like, "Who the fuk is this guy??" I couldn't believe that I was in between these two legends @ that unbelievable venue in the capacity of a mild mannered sound tech. Needless to say that I went to go find a place to sit down afterwards because I was on the most natural "High" ever. I have never again, to this day, felt such euphoria for so long. Finally, about two weeks later Rab (Prince Be's assistant) came to my room and said "Yo Dan, Prince wants to talk to you". I was like "Oh shi*, what did I do now". I enter the room and Prince is looking at me holding Rolling Stone magazine and says to me "Dan. How the hell did you get in Rolling Stone magazine and I didn't!!" He laughs and hands the magazine to me and there I am in between Paul and Ringo with the caption reading "Paul McCartney, Unknown, and Ringo Starr at the Hollywood Bowl for Earthday Concert"... At that point I knew my "15 minutes" ,that everyone has coming to them, has come and gone. Anyway, hope you guys enjoyed that one. I'll hit you up with some more very soon. Sorry, but I don't have the goods on the Traci Lords story. I think that happened right b4 I got there. Let me know the "juicy" details though.
Sincerely,
The 5th Beatle

X'tech, thanks for posting that-- that story was a pleasure to read. I mean, half the Beatles AND Prince in one story? When I was 22, I don't know if I could have taken that much excitement at once without keeling over.
My connection with The Artist Currently Known as Prince is by two degrees of separation; I went out once on a date with a girl once who went to grade school in Germany with Mayte Garcia.:)
I eagerly await your next tale.

Glad to have ya here Dan!!! :)
WJ, the Prince he was referring to is Be. Prince is what we all used to call him back in the day. Don't know when he took on this Be personna, but I know it was a bitch for me to adjust to! LOL!!! :D :D :D
Tee still calls him Prince in fact. Whenever I refer to him as Be, Tee be like "who?" LOL! :D

Yeah, my bad WJ. I was referring to Prince Be of PM Dawn. The other Prince (a every other artist out there) probaly wouldv'e had a hissy fit if he had gotten looked over for a pic in RS by his SoundTech. That speaks volumes of the kind of guy Prince Be was/is. Thanx for clarifying Cozmo. Peace.

However, don't even think that makes me less excited about the story. Prince Be is a legend in and of himself; just in 1993, he was still a legend in the making.
And you know this, maaaan!
You're right, the part about joking about Rolling Stone does make a whole lot more sense with Prince Be in the scene rather than Prince-Prince, considering what I've heard of the attention-hungry ego of the latter. Everyone who's posted here about knowing Prince Be says that he's got a great sense of humor.
Oh, and if you do spend time with Prince-Prince, I have a tip for you:
Don't look directly into his eyes! :D

Whenever I refer to him as Be, Tee be like "who?" LOL! :D And if Tee says "Who?" you say "No, not King Just; Be!"
Then Tee says "'Just be?' Are you getting existential on me?"
Oh, wait... I think this routine has been done already.:o
It took me a while before I figured out who you were talking about when you mentioned "Tee", 'cuz for the longest time, I thought T was his middle initial, rather than his showbiz handle.

Yeah right before you met the prince Dan Prince Be was in a very low budget porno with Traci Lords. He went by the name "Saul Goode" came out in the late 80s I think.. It's almost a collectors item these days haha I know Chief has a copy in his porno stash if anyone wants a copy

Was he "in it", like in-the-action "in it"? Or was he like the-copy-machine-repair-man-who-haphazardly-walks-in-to-it-and-watches-with-folded-arms-adding-the-occasional-nod "in it"? Big difference.
:D I love the name Saul Goode, btw *laughing*

Actually, Tee, is short for his childhood nickname, which is Tuga, which is baby talk for Sugar. His showbiz handle is Al T, but his middle name is really Emanuel.
Cleared that up for ya?:p :D :D

Thanx for the 411 on the underground porno HieroHero. And uh... (thinking to myself, off the subject, that Is*it*my*turn is a cute blogger hmm...they do exist). Back to the subject, good question. Was Prince Be "in it" or "In It to Win It"? I think i know the answer because he always came off as a a "Winner" to me.
Quick story (because its 5am):
I remember that back, on tour, when I used to smokem' da peace pipe (for my cataract of course), I would find every opportunity I could (stops for food, lodging, flats, just because, etc) to practice my right to become retarded. On this particular evening we stopped at a Denny's (I know rock starish) to bust a grub. I went outside after we ordered our food and blazed up by the bus. I was thouroughly high when I got back to the table and I swear Prince (Be) knew something was going on with me. So he preceded to ask me If I remembered different Saturday morning cartoons that were in rotation when we (the proverbial neo-ol' heads) were kids. He mentioned a few like, "Im just bill, Im a plain ol bill and Im sitting here on capital hill". But, I will never forget when he was looking at me serious as hell and started singing... "3....is da magic number...oh yes it is..." What a surreal feeling it was to be serenaded by someone who had 2 top 40 songs (one a #1) on Billboard while in Denny's high as a mutha. At the time I thought to myself, people pay money to hear this guy sing and here I am getting an un-plugged cover song of one of my childhood favorites, for free, over a grand-slam breakfast (scrambled hard) at Denny's. What a great country!
