I completely agree with you, Ether.
The instrumentation could have been a recording of the original, and the vocalists, although they had voices different from Sade's, were mimicking Sade riff for riff.
I can understand why someone would like to do a cover of "No Ordinary Love", because it's a great song, but what is the point of doing the same thing all over, practically verbatim? When an artist does this, it ends up feeling less like a professional performance to me, and more like karaoke night at Bessie's Bar & Grill.

I agree with Jak. What the point of covering a song if you're just gonna do a xerox of it? If you're gonna cover someone else's song, at least put your own flavor into it so it has a reason to exist. That being said, nobody but Sade is allowed to sing that song, if you ask me.

*runs away to put on the gorgeous 7 minute album version*

Hmm...I think if you're going to do a cover you've got to step up and not only bring something new to the table, but make it better than the original. The way P.M. Dawn covers songs which is always just mind-blowing. And it's always because you walk away from the song thinking to yourself: "Shit. I never knew that song could sound like that." 9 times out of 10 I like the PM Dawn version better than the original, and the 10th time they're tied as equally good just different.

This one doesn't even come close to stepping up. It's not original, it doesn't blow my mind with the song's potential beyond the already realized, and it's not even as good as Sade. Thumbs down.

First of all, any artist would be crazy to tackle a destinctive sound as Sade. Her vocal and her band are so tightly tied together to make up her sound, NO ONE will be able to touch it.

Secondly, what you said about PM Dawn, Mistress, I agree 1000%. I had never heard the original "Blurry" before PM Dawn performed it on "Hit Me". So I went to the internet and found the original and just shook my head. In that two minute version of the song, PM Dawn made the original sound so much better. Throw that in the pile with "Superstition", "Norwegen Wood", and even "Fast Car"--all incredible.
