Hey, all I know is that I wouldn't mind my children watching an educational show about gay families. I want my children to know that all different types of people and families exist, and that no one is weird or a freak for it.
I also know that for someone to be so AGAINST that idea even being on the air is extreme. The way I feel is this-- if you want your kids to be sheltered bigots, just don't turn on Nickelodeon. That's your bad.

Okay, here I am looking ignorant. No, I have not seen the show. However, I did go to AFA's site, and read what THEY had to say about it. And being as "liberal" as I am, the only way I would be offended by the content of the show is if the parents of these children were subjecting them to horribly dysfunctional and inappropriate mess.... which Nick couldn't show anyway.
The point is, I don't have to see a show to agree or disagree with it's premise. Ask the members of AFA if they've seen the show. They haven't. They can only disagree because their super conservative leader tells them it's about gay people. The end.

I think half the shows on TV are a horribly dyfunctional innappropiate mess, and being a father I have to at least cast a discretional eye on them before I turn my kid loose to feed on their crap.

So saying, I would never blindly reject a show because of gay content, but I would never blindly accept 1 either. Let me judge the show and decide for myself, and I'll let the lemmings choose sides and duke it out.

First and foremost, If I were watching a show, my entertainment mind you, and it happened to be about Hetero or Homo...It better have some content to keep me entertained...It better have substance, and it better have good acting, or i will not watch....The whole crap because this character is Gay, or this character is a drug feen is not what im tuning in for....If Im wanting to learn more about things in general, I would turn to the Discovery channel or History channel, or whatever learning channel there is..Im sorry, but what pisses me off about society these days is the fact that if you dont accept a way or style of life...your bigoted. Thats a bunch of bullshit..I have no problems with others doing what they want with there life..im not influencing my life on them..They have the same choice I do to turn the damn channel, or to get away from the situation..Its not about being bigoted...although there are a lot out there on both sides, Im not denying that...but what gets me going is these activists that say because i choose not to let my children to watch these things, that im sheltering them....No, I will teach my children as much as I can to the extent of my knowledge...Then if they desire more information, I will help them research whatever they want to know..People tend to forget that television in most part is fictional entertainment. When Im watching TV, im taking myself away from the everyday drama of REAL LIFE. If you want my opinon...People are just fucking stupid...nuff said...:)

I remember all the hubub about Ellen. First, will she come out on the show or won't she, and everybody gettin all worked up about it on 1 side or the other...and all I could say was "Who gives a shit? It's a horrible show." It was horrible before they started that gay shit...completely un fukkin watchable. Now I'm supposed to watch it or I'm a homophobe? Or, I'm supposed to boycott it or I'm against family values? Fukk that, if it's good I'll watch it, if it sux I won't. Eventually, everybody got passed the gay issue and got around to realizing what I had said from the beginning...the show sucked ass...and it went away.

Elizabeth, here's a parental point of view for ya.

The show is on Nick, so it's for the entertainment of kids. Sex should not be involved AT ALL. I have never seen any sexual issues on those shows up until now, so if they are going to introduce sexual issues for the sole purpose of educating kids about homosexuals, then I would be against it, that is not Nick's place. Now if however, there will just incidentally be a child with 2 mommys or somethin and they make no big deal about it, that's just fine with me.

And still, in either case I would view the show and judge for myself.

Honestly, I didn't think of myself as "forcing an issue". I was just trying to do something small that mattered to me. I wouldn't have said a thing if I knew it would be met with as much opposition as it was... apparently I just chose the wrong forum to voice this. I sent the same thing to an entirely different group of friends of mine and was received quite well. Please forgive me, I did not know my audience, it seems.
Coz-
My pre-parental point of view is this: I will get to my kids before a prejudiced society will. Kids are easily influenced, and I don't really want to hear my kids walking around calling people faggots. It's never too early to educate your kids on sex. It can be done tastefully, anyway. Just me, personally. My bad.

nooooo liz..your opinions are HIGHLY WELCOME...your taking what i said the wrong way.... what i meant by the forcing the issue term was basically that i dont think a TV show should FORCE the issue of sexuality...Lets say im watching a show with my 4 year old...and 2 kids happen to run into a house to get some lemonade because its hot...and there are to men or 2 women as the parents...thats fine in my opinion, as long as there is good content to the programming..Like Coz and Syxx have stated..Ellens show flat out sucked, not because she was gay, but because the writing flat out sucked...Now what I do disagree with is the fact that the corporation that is pushing this is only doing it for the money..They ARE NOT DOING IT FOR educational purposes...they are airing the whole sexuality soley on ratings..to boost them and get more viewers.. And another point to bring up....just as a side bar...My kids have way too much else to learn right now than sex...I will be just like my parents when it comes to talking with them....(sit them down and let them watch a porn...) hehehe..for the love of God people im joking...No seriously, I will discuss with him at any age..Hell my 4 year old has already noticed his penis..my one year old is getting there...but for right now, its not the time for him to be confused about sexuality.
