Damn coz I was unable to make it to the ann arbor show.....

So i'll ask this here

I was checkin out a newcleus discography, cuz i'm not hip to anything past the Jam on Revenge lp....and it seems that every other song listed had the word "JAM" in the title....was that your thing or what, I noticed a GRIP of jam on it remixes too....was that you or the label's doing? I guess what i'm asking is how much of the content of post 1984 albums were up to you, and how much was imposed on you, cuz it seems like it all was calculated to hit up on the popularity of jam on it...and i'm SURE you had more up your sleeve than that! p.s. i've heard a lot of jam on it remixes and none of them even come close to the original 12 inch.... whatever.

OK J, let me run this down for ya.

My Street DJ crew from the 70s was (is) called Jam-On Productions. Since what we were about was battling other crews, of course we tended to drop our name quite often. Our first single was originally called "Jam-On's Revenge" because it was about our crew battling rappers. Because of typos by some idiot or the other it became know as "Jam On Revenge", and they then added "The Wikki Wikki Song" for commercial purposes.

"Jam On It" (they took out the hyphen again...I hated those bastards) was our 2nd song, and the premise was simple...if you want "it" done right, you have to Jam-On "it", in other words, get Jam-On to do it.

Now as for "Let's Jam", you're absolutely right. I was cowtowing to the powers that be at the label who wanted us to do another "Jam On It"...of course it didn't work at all.

"Jam-On This (Old School's Back In Session)" was done 13 years after "Jam On It", and is basically a tribute. All the crap that you see that was released between 1984 and 1997 is completely bogus...it's all done by imposters so of course they are trying to ride "Jam On It"s coattails. That's probably the brunt of all the "JAM" shit you saw.

The "Jam On It" remixes (not sure what GRIP means) was a deal I did with Hot...much to my chagrin...I have yet to be even accounted to, much less paid. And you're right, almost all of the remixes suck!!! Of course I didn't do any of them...well, I did the oldschool 1, but it was done purposely to sound as much like the original as possible.

So, on the only real Newcleus albums ever released..."Jam On Revenge" and "Space Is The Place", I used the word "Jam" in the title 3 times...add "Jam-On This (Old School's Back In Session)" on the "Best Of" album and you have 4...I don't think that's too excessive.

I am working on "Jam-On Returns" however.

Hope that helps clear things up Joyeaux.

damn i guess i missed a real opportunity to hang out with ya. next time for sure....

miscellanious thoughts:
alright, that makes a lot of sense, and also makes "jam-on's revenge" a lot more sense (".....jam it on, jam-on, cuz we can't get enough..." etc)

could you fill a couple lyrics for me?
from "jam-on it"....during the last go around of the chorus....what the hell is your line right before "the sure shot boogie that'll rock your SOUL"??? something such "i said jam-on's the something something lose control it's the sure shot boogie," etc....also "and if you feel like you wanna dance all night then go on ahead and....?????" what the fuck?
that's been bugging me forEVER....

it's a damn shame you ain't gettin paid for those remixes, etc.

...a "grip" of something is an enormous amount. i don't know where that started, must be a detroit thing. if i saw 20 copies of one of your tapes at a store, i might say to my homeboy, "don't worry about that newcleus selling out before you make it to the store, there's a grip of them there"

thanks.

That's right brotherman, I do not drink. I can always toast a glass of cranberry juice in honour of your tour! But I'll have to slow down on those even--the sugar gets to me after about two of them.

Let me know if you guys plan to slide in to the Burgh.

Will do Louis!

Ok J, here goes:

Jam-On is the funky beat that takes control with the sure shot boogie that'll rock your soul.

And if you're feelin like you wanna dance all night then go on ahead and flaunt it.

Instead of doing the pier on the 27th in NYC we are now doing the Manhattan Center on the 28th (NYC). Philly shows on the 26th and the 27th remain...showtimes at 7pm.

As far as I know Moodswingaz (and Be) are still on for the pier on the 27th at 2pm.
