I like what I've seen of the Xbox 360, but because of the HD-DVD, I can't help but think that I'd be buying a 21st Century Betamax.

My fam had a Betamax back in '87. It sure was a challenge finding a video store that carried Beta. I saw Robocop for the first time on Beta.

with japanese rpgs i think its more about trial and error....if you talk and it doesnt result in a boss battle with you inevitably dying..then it is a good day...talk to things in happy pastel colors....cuz if anyone is wearing black or a mask in the game and you talk...wouldnt you know the music changes and you die 8 seconds later....thats my rule of thumb...

You do realize that the HD-DVD player was an *add-on* right? the base machine just plays regular plain old dvd's. I have heard rumor that they are making the blue ray add-on, although microsoft currently denies it. So I don't get the reference to betamax, it's a mute point.

2.ridge racer 6

thats about it.....

im sorry.....but that halo stuff bores the sh@@ out of me....the control scheme is hella clunky....and the whole fps genre kinda got old with goldeneye on me...call me jaded...hell i like time crisis much more than halo....so i kinda gotta go with giggles on this...ps3 is better but it isnt by and insane margin or anything...

the way I see it, your average console owner might end up with 15 games before the console has been discontinued (AVERAGE!!) and each system has more than this number of games that are excellent , in this generation there are things going for each console, whether its bluray,graphics,online play free, or motion sensing controls.

my personal choice is nintendo, for the multiplayer factor, the gimmick of movement as control method and the emulation of other systems..

lemme know when anyone gets mario kart wii and i'll play ya!

I'd agree with you there about the Dreamcast Ether. The jaguar was another system ahead of its time that just didn't have the support to make it work. Neogeo as well.


Sad thing is, Sony is already working on the PS4 for possible 2010 release. What's up with that?

The 360 was a sputtering half success for Microsoft and IF it make it to another generation, they are going to have to try a much much harder to beat Sony.

Both systems still come in under the Wii even though they've gained ground over the last year. Sony is too expensive and Microsoft doesn't try to cater to enough gamer types. The Wii killed them with nastalga, a quirky controller, and addicitive even if simple games and a lower price point.

Still, the only way I'd own a 360 is if I won it or someone gave it to me, even if I could afford one 100 times over.

nope.. no setup if your wii is connected online already..
just select online multiplayer, one or two players on your console and away you go.. unless you mean finding who you want online, there is a friend code listed in there somewhere.. finishing last is easy cause when you get ahead the computer dishes out a blue shell or another strong power up to the people behind you to level the playing field

Funny thing - my two girls just played Galaga about 10 times on the Wii! Yup! A $300 gaming system attached to a $1000 plasma playing a $6 downloaded game from the 80's! That's analagous to the baby being more interested in the box that the $100 baby toy came in!

Then again, Galaga was my all time favorite arcade game! I was seriously considering buying the anniversary edition of Galaga/Ms Pac Man - the real arcade game. Something like $7,000, but I couldn't justify it at once and I am terrible at saving up money... I hear that there is a code/sequence you can do to get the original Pac Man to play on the anniversary edition (like unlocking a secret game).

... ahh the memories... and the wasted quarters....
