Excuse the spam fam, but... :haha:

Yo y'all, next week Saturday, April 25th, at 5PM EST, 10PM GMT, my son DJ Dogtrane and I return to Global Funk Radio with our new show, Jam-On The Groove!

We've changed the name because this show will be drastically improved in production value over the old, as it will be fully incorporated with my studio equipment. Dogtrane will be doing his usual live megamixes and mash-ups. If you guys haven't heard him before then ask somebody, the kid is dope! I will be doing my share of mixing and record playing, spinning themes and vibes, and playing LOTS of what is rockin', new, or coming, but I also from time to time will be previewing what is presently being worked on in my studio, and even throwing together a few live mixes and jam sessions. I GUARANTEE you that it will be unlike any other show that you have ever heard before!

For those of y'all who are not familiar with our old show, this will NOT be a strictly Electro or Hip-Hop oriented program. Dogtrane may play anything (and mash it up with anything), and so as not to stifle him I will not try to change that outside of the occasional reminder about GFR's core audience. I on the otherhand, will play a LOT of Electro and Breakbeat, but I am prone to go into Funk, Jazz or even Disco or House excursions, and make no promises about anything. Our main goal though, is to entertain you, and for that purpose we will be pulling out no stops!

So, CHECK US OUT!!! Oh, and come and join us in the chatroom!

This was our best show yet!

Dogtrane rocked a completely stupendous set, full of mash-ups, classic break beats, Funk, Disco, the boy went off! Loaded with dope scratches and blends, The Dog tore up his 1200s using vinyl, Serato AND Traktor DJ! Unbelievable set!

I then followed up with yet another rockin' hour of Electro, dropping a bit of Aux 88, Sace 2, Kraftwerk, the hella funky Zak B cut and hella funky DJ Diplomat megamix from the hella funky Street Sounds Nu Electro compilation, and a 4 song Newcleus block featuring 3 unreleased gems and one seldom played classic! Definitely one for your ipod!!!

The Memorial Day Weekend Brooklyn Style BBQ Bash!

Well, almost. It was stormin' outside so we didn't have any BBQ, but we had beer, booze and booty bouncin' beats!

Dogtrane went on a mash-up rampage, accented with plenty of dope scratches and blends! The chatroom was buzzin' as he worked his unique style of magic on tracks as dissonant as Captain Sky to Flava Flav to Michael Jackson to Monty Python! I even dropped a few lines of age old '70s Brooklyn flavor rhymes as he cut up Super Sporm! Another blazin' set!

I followed with a solid bumpin' hour of hard hittin' Electro and smooth single malt scotch. I dropped hard beats like Dr. Schmidt's "Engines Of God" and Dark Vektor's "Wires" without droppin a drop of The Glenlivet, adding in two monster new pre-release tracks from the Open Concept label, "Magnolia" by Carl Finlow and the jazzy, eccentric "Neon Parallels" by Biepang (which I erroneously attributed to Inspector, scotch in full effect). I finished up with before and after versions of "Automan", thus adding that final Jam-On touch.

Your ipods hunger for this one!

Dogtrane took a leave of absence and set off on a crate-digging expedition to Brooklyn this weekend and left me to my own devices. So, I decided to do a full 2 hour Electro show!

To fill in the first hour I dropped an extraordinary Electro mix from 2004 by Volum! It is a must hear! I then followed with some choice cuts, emphasizing on originality and ending with 3 brand new, exemplary, melodic Electro masterpieces, "Fragile" by Microthol on Trust, "Neon Parallels" by Biepang on Open Concept, and "Lia" by Electronic Confessions on Machinen Musik.

Oh, and I played the brand new Street Sounds Electro Chart #1, "Programmed 4 L.O.V.E." by Newcleus. Woohooo!

Don't worry, DJ Dogtrane will be back next week with his maniacal mash-up mayhem! Enjoy!

The Dog Returns!

Dogtrane returned and delivered one of his most eclectic sets to date! He started out with Disco, mashin' up tunes so rare and obscure that they even had me baffled! He even dug out a couple of old gems from Kid Creole And The Coconuts! He then went into some pounding, ground thumpin' House and mashed it up with some Soca. Classic set!

I followed with an Electro set that emphasized on the beat. Of course, I started out with that most important and influential of Electro beats, "Numbers" by Kraftwerk. I then followed that with a line-up that included such hard hitters as Anthony Rother, Aux 88 and Dark Vektor and new gems from Karl Finlow, Electronic Confessions and The Middle Men (Bass Junkie and Jim Kneen). Finally, being that Newcleus - "Programmed 4 L.O.V.E." is enjoying it's 2nd week as #1 on the Street Sounds Electro Chart, I closed out the show with the instrumental.

Enjoy!

Another Classic Show!

Dogtrane took a bit of a break from the mash-ups this week and instead went right to blending, cutting and scratching up classic, hard rocking beats, breaks and grooves. He had the chatroom buzzin' as he went way back for some Soul, rocked some Disco and then dropped some Electro. A request rang out from the chat for Aleem's classic "Release Yourself" and The Dog obliged in hard hittin' fashion!

I then dropped an Electro set that featured more obscure and brand new tracks, starting with Das Omikron's funky, eclectic "Analog Computation". I then widened the spectrum from The Clone DJ to DJ Xed and from Harmonic 313 to Dark Vektor, and The Middle Men in between. I threw in a bit of classic Newcleus for good measure and gave everybody a taste of a remix that I have been sweating over in the lab.

Enjoy!

Legends Of The Past, Rhythms Of The Future!

After taking off a week for the Newcleus show at Madison Square Garden we returned with a special show. To mark the passing of music legend and icon Michael Jackson, Dogtrane put together a sensational set that included some of Michael's music and that of other Lost Legends like James Brown, Marvin Gaye, Barry White, Isaac Hayes, Rick James and many others. It was quite a poignant set that kept everyone in the chatroom engaged and reminiscent.

I followed up these grooves from the past with some choice Electro grooves of the future, playing a complete set of Nu Electro that is either just released or pre-released, or even still being worked on. Fresh beats from the likes of Electronic Confessions, Karl Finlow, Rob Real, The Blastromen, The Middle Men, Dynamik Bass System, Das Omikron, Newcleus and more! There is something exciting happening in Electro and Jam-On The Groove is on top of it!

All in all, another great show, as we prepare for this week's upcoming Jam-On July 4th Jamboree!!!

Enjoy!

JAM-ON JULY 4TH JAM-BOREE!!!

WHHOOOAAAA!!!! WHAT A SHOW!!!

Most of the Jam-On Productions members, family and friends were on hand for a 4th Of July BBQ and Bash at the homestead, and man did we jam! We set out to do a 6 hour, 3 podcast show and ended up nearly doing 7 hours, without a single boring minute! This HAS to go down as our best show to date!

PART 1:

DJ Dogtrane set off the show and the first hour with a set of classic breaks! He rocked most of the staples for an hour and sounded so good that the rest of us wouldn't let him quit. We then realized that he had not played "Just Begun" and we refused to let him off the set until he dug it up. He did just that and added "Give It Up Or Turn It Loose" for good measure. Dr. Freeze and Al T joined me on the mic. A great start to the evening!

I followed that with a set of hard hitting, butt shaking, floor rockin' Nu Electro. Had a couple of glitches, as I was already deep into my bottle of The Glenlivet (something that will become more and more apparent as the night goes on). Still, the likes of Signal Type, Volsoc, Dr. Schmidt, Dark Vector and The Middle Men kept the beat deep, dark, electronic and funky!

PART 2:

Hour 3 (1/2) featured original Jam-On DJ Dr. Freeze laying down a smooth and funky set of some groovin' House music! Choice cuts and classic jams interwoven seamlessly gave a sweet taste of what our Brooklyn House parties were like in the late '80s and early '90s.

I came behind that with a rockin' set of Breakbeat! I was quite inebriated by this time so I'm not quite sure how I managed, but I dug down deep somehow and managed not to make too much of a fool of myself. Don't know if I can quite say the same thing about Part 3...

PART 3:

The last 2 hours and change are definitely the highlight of the show! By this time just about everybody in the house was good and sloshed, except for Dogtrane who was not drinking. So, instead us all getting on the set as originally planned, we turned over all of the DJ duties to Dogtrane who of course did not disappoint! The rest of our drunken mob then manned the two mics and made memories! Unfortunately in some segments the mics were too low (as I was by this point much too intoxicated to properly monitor such things), but the fun is definitely well in evidence. Dogtrane's completely off the cuff set is non-stop dopeness with classic Disco, House, Funk, Breaks and even some Rock. I throw some drunken ancient rhymes in which I promptly screw up, but Al T and even my oldest son Moseefus and nephew Maccabee grace the mic with their presence and freestyles. By the end of the night the studio is packed with drunken revelers, many of whom take turns pronouncing their glee on the mic, while Dogtrane never misses a beat all night!

A CLASSIC show that will be hard to ever top!

Jam-On The Groove - Saturday, July 18th 2009 Podcast

Sorry for the late posting this week, lots of things are happening...

BACK IN EFFECT!!!

After taking off a week for our annual Jam-On excursion to Coney Island Pier, Dogtrane and I returned with an episode to sort of mark where the show has gone so far.

Being that we are the show on Global Funk Radio that plays the most 4/4 dance music, Dogtrane decided to give us a 4 on the floor jaunt. First taking us through some choice classic Disco and then venturing into a nice mix of funky House music. He then finished up with an exclusive House mashed-up remix of Sheryl Crow's "All I Wanna Do Is Have Some Fun". Fun, funky set!

For my half I celebrated the arrival of the Street Sounds Nu Electro Chart to its new home at GFR, by compiling and playing a Top 11 list of our personal favorites of all the Nu Electro that we have played since our opening show this past April. I talked plenty of hooey of course. I've included a track listing in the order they were played, from 11th to 1st.

Signal Type - "In Abyss"
Karl Finlow - "Magnolia"
Sace 2 - "Stereophonic Sound"
Das Omikron - "Anolog Computation"
DJ Xed - "Sferik"
Newcleus - "Programmed 4 L.O.V.E."
Microthol - "Fragile"
Dr. Schmidt - "The Engines Of God"
Dark Vektor - "Wires"
The Middle Men - "Unseen Beings"
Biepang - "Neon Parallels"

With the Street Sounds chart now coming to GFR I have decided to make my portion of the show's dedication to Electro permanent. Not to say that I won't be playing other music from time to time, but I believe that the scene right now really needs my commitment!

ENJOY!

DRUMS, BASS, ELECTRO!!!

Dogtrane was in NY this weekend, so he pre-recorded his set to be played for the show. This week he changed it up by playing a full hour of Drum & Bass (with just a dash of Hardcore) and mashing it up with all sorts of inappropriate flotsam and jetsam. Was that ABBA I heard? LOL! Per usual he had the chatroom buzzing and whirring over his mixes and mashes and inimitable stylings. Another must check!

With Leeroy on leave from The Project this week it was my absolute pleasure to host and do the rundown of this week's Street Sounds Nu Electro Chart. I mixed in choice selections from the chart with other tasty Electro morsels including a new absolute banger from Dr. Schmidt and a rough mix demo from Newcleus. Here's the track list:

Dr. Schmidt - "They're Here"
Blastromen - "Metal Machine Victims"
UKV - "Random Number Generator" -- (#6 on SS chart)
Zero One / Paul Hardcastle - "Over N Over" -- (#13 on SS chart)
Gammachild - "The TRIAC"
Newcleus - "Returned To Earth" -- (rough mix demo)
Otto Von Schirach - "Bass Low" -- (#11 on SS chart)
Bass Kittens - "Air Quotes" -- (#20 on SS chart)
Das Omikron - "Analog Computation" -- (chart rundown background)
Dynamik Bass System - "She's Gotta Have It" -- (#1 on SS chart)

Next week should prove interesting as a new and improved Street Sounds Nu Electro Chart returns to Leeroy's show The Project on Global Funk Radio. You can be sure that Dogtrane and I will have plenty more tasty morsels to serve up to you all as well!

ENJOY!

THE DOG DAYS RETURN!!!

Dogtrane was back in the house this week and did not disappoint with the beats and grooves! This week's chief flavor of mash was classic Hip-Hop, with a dash of R&B, New Jack Swing and Old School Electro. Of course, he served up more than enough other funky ingredients to keep the speakers pumpin' and the chatroom buzzin'! Another unique show from the most unique DJ on the net!

The mission for my portion of the show was to bring y'all the hottest Electro comin' down the pike! I dropped new, unreleased or soon to be released tracks from the likes of Dark Vektor, Rob Real, Dr. Schmidt, DJR21 and Gammachild, then pulled a classic gaff by playing the wrong version of our much ballyhooed exclusive, DJ Xed's soon to be released new remix of Newcleus' "Jam On It". Unfortunately, I played the version minus DJ Dogtrane's scratches. Talk about a screw-up! I will make sure that the correct version will be the first track that I play next week.

Anyway, here's the track list:

The Boys From Tronn - "Destiny"
Gammachild - "Necronomicon"
Dr. Schmidt - "Flesh"
Silicon Scally - "Process"
Rob Real - "Time Traveller"
Dark Vektor - "Mind Abduction"
DJR21 - "Synthetix"
Breakniks - "Jam On It (Psychosis Remix Instrumental)"
Newcleus - "Jam On It (DJ Xed Remix)" [unfinished version]

Speaking of next week, it promises to be yet another one of those classic Jam-On The Grooves! Sunday will mark my 50th birthday, so we will be having another big Jam-On shindig here to celebrate! It will be a 4 hour, 2 podcast extravaganza that you don't want to miss! Hope to see you all then!

In the meantime... ENJOY!

COZMO'S 50TH BIRTHDAY BASH!!!

ANOTHER SUMMER BLAST!!!

Once again Jam-On Productions members, family and friends made the trip out to PA and did it up Brooklyn style! It was a very special occasion, celebrating not only my 50th birthday but also the 25th anniversary of the release of "Jam On It" and the "Jam On Revenge" album, and the 30th anniversary of when Lady E and I first met! We made it a 4 hour, 2 podcast event and it rocked all the way through!

PART 1:

For this week's show we decided to switch things up a bit. I took the first part of the show and turned it into a 2 hour Electro showcase. Being that there was so much for Jam-On and I to celebrate I dropped an extra heavy dose of Newcleus!

I started off as promised with the proper final mix of Crobot DJ Xed's scintillating remix of "Jam On It", this time complete with DJ Dogtrane's scratches. I followed that with a set that included choice Electro bangers from the likes of Microthol, Justin Scott, Dynamik Bass System and UKV, sandwiched around Newcleus' "Teknology 2" and another exclusive remix of "Jam On It", this one by Zak B! I then finished it all off with DJ Xed's funky dope megamix of Newcleus trax, created especially for my birthday and delivered to me right before the show! Thank you Xed for makin' my birthday (and our show) Xedtra funky!!!

Here's the track list:

Newcleus - "Jam On It (DJ Xed Remix)"
UKV - "Random"
Dr. Schmidt - "They're Here"
Dynamik Bass System - "We Are Binary"
Justin Scott - "Undying (Supreme.Ja Remix"
Newcleus - "Teknology 2 (2nd Ruff)"
Microthol - "Deceptive Behavior"
Biepang - "Neon Parallels"
Newcleus - "Jam On It (Zak B Remix)"
Downrocks Feat. Jazzyrizzla - "Electro Zetas"
Rob Real & Lucid - "Contamination (Rob Real Remix)"
Dark Vektor - "Wires"
Volsoc - "Shoutout"
Newcleus - DJ Xed Megamix

"Intro"
"Na Na Beat"
"Destintion Earth (1999)"
"Why"
"Make It Live"
"No More Running"
"Automan"
"Jam On Revenge"
"I'm Not A Robot"
"Jam On It"
"Cyborg Dance"
"Space Is The Place"
"Let's Jam"
"Teknology"
"Computer Age (Push The Button)"
"Programs"
"Programmed 4 L.O.V.E."

PART 2:

Dogtrane then took over the reigns for hours 3 and 4, laying down his best blend of classic Brooklyn breaks, beats and grooves! Of course by this time the booze had been flowing a plenty and the party was in full gear!

Every B-Boy out there worth his salt is gonna be filled with the urge to commence to uprocking, as the Dog runs the gauntlet of break beat classics from "Give It Up, Turn It Loose" to "Just Begun" to "Corazon". No rhymin' on the MIC this time, but plenty of bawdiness and revelry. He finished up with a nice dose of classic Disco to underline this show as another one for the archives!

DOGGONE FUNKY!!!

Dogtrane was on yet another excursion to NYC to do some crate diggin' and to pick up some new cartridges, and once again left the old man up to his own devices. Fortunately he left us a nice set of funky blended classic Disco, a perfect Summertime mix! The tracks were hot, laid back and drippin' with Funk!

For my portion of the show I tried to change things up a bit by playing mostly Nu Electro tracks that have not been featured on the show before. I started out with stand-outs from The Middle Men, Kronos Device and Blastromen, switched things up a bit with a dab of Detroit Electro, then came right back with some melodious machinations from DJR21 and funky synth work from Matt Whitehead. Of course I couldn't resist the temptation to pound once again a couple of my current favorites, Dr. Schmidt's "They're Here" and DJ Xed's remix of "Jam On It. Fun set!

Here's the track list:

The Middle Men - "Defeat The Object"
Kronos Device - "Atom Smasher"
Blastromen - "Human 2.0"
Fix - "Shaftism"
Mr. De - "Whonleeone"
DJR21 - "DataStream"
Matt Whitehead - "Conveyor"
Dr. Schmidt - "They're Here"
Newcleus - "Jam On It (DJ Xed Remix)"
Leki - "Breakin' Out"
UKV - "RND"

HOT SUMMER FUNK!!!

Dogtrane was back live in the studio after his latest crate diggin' forage and did not disappoint. This time he hit us off with a hot, funky set of some Baltimore House, all sweaty and sexy and all sliced and mashed up just like we like 'em! A nice, invigorating vibe change to keep the show rockin' through the hot Summer season!

For my half I went for a more eclectic edge, so as to set the show off from the more general flow of Nu Electro that has been regularly featured on many of the other Electro shows lately. I dropped a brand new, fresh out the studio banger from the guys who made "Take Me To Your Leader", Egyptian Lover's remix of Stone's Throw artist James Pants, some obscure Electronic Space Funk from Luke Vibert, and a double dose of Imatran Voima (with a little help from Bass Junkie).

Here's my track list:

Wreck And Code 305 - "Take Me To Your Leader"
Mindless Machine - "Live To Kill"
J Double - "Dangerous (Supreme Ja Remix)"
James Pants - "Cosmic Rap (Egyptian Lover Remix"
Leki - "Breakin' Out"
Luke Vibert - "Space Race"
Gosub - "Tra-Fuse 1"
Imatran Voima - "Techno Slut"
Imatran Voima Vs Bass Junkie - "Quad City (Bass Junkie Mixxx)"
Silicon Scally - "Process"

Summertime is slippin' away and we can feel it, so we decided to put together something a little different for this week.

Dogtrane decided to hit us off with a raucous set of Garage House, in his special blend of course. There were some obscure trax, and some funky favorites as well that brought a little clamor in the chatroom.

I decided to explore the tastes, shapes and boundaries of Electro, striking such dissonant notes as Malcolm McLaren, Kraftwerk, Anthony Rother and Dark Vektor, and even venturing as far out as Electro Trip Hop and Drum & Bass. One of our most unique shows!

Here's my track list:

Malcolm McLaren & The World's Famous Supreme Team - "World's Famous"
Malcolm McLaren & The World's Famous Supreme Team - "Hobo Scratch"
Kraftwerk - "Home Computer"
Anthony Rother - "Red Light District"
Dark Vektor - "Sepre Es El Mateix"
Gosub - "Ghetto Box Live"
Luke Vibert - "Electrophy"
Visit Venus - "First Man On The Moog"
LTJ Bukem - "Rhodes To Freedom"
Dr. Schmidt - "Warning"

Next week we will be closing out the Summer with our End Of Summer Labor Day Bash! 4 hours, 2 podcasts, all dopeness!!!

ENJOY!

END OF SUMMER LABOR DAY BASH!!!

I originally decided not to post a podcast for this week. Our show was rife with technical difficulties during the first half of our planned 4 hour, 2 podcast extravaganza. We were kicked off the air no less than 7 times, which proved to be quite frustrating. However, when we finally got rid of the gremlins about 1:40 in or so things did stabilize rather nicely.

The podcast picks up from that point. Dogtrane spinned classic Brooklyn House Party Disco. Unfortunately, due to all of the problems there was a lack of the usual party revelry as my concentration remained on keeping us on the air. Still, Dogtrane did his thing as he always does.

I then did a first for my segment of the show. I bypassed my usual presentation style and instead spinned a 2 hour set of Nu Electro in a party flow. It is something that I plan to do more of in the future. Due to this there is no track list for my segment this week, just non-stop beats!

ENJOY!

BACK TO THE BASICS!

Once more, Dogtrane was on an excursion to Brooklyn and NYC for some crate diggin' and left me on my lonesome. Per usual he prerecorded his half of the show, this time laying down a 1 hour set of straight-up '70s Disco. The live reviews in the chatroom were rave as he laid down layer after layer of hustlin' classics that would have made the cast of Dance Fever squeal with delight!

On my segment I continued in my efforts to give light to some of the more interesting stuff that is out there on the fringes of what some people are calling Nu Electro, as well as some of the best stuff from the more mainline folds of the genre. The theme this week was doubles, as I played 2 from a few artists, including DJ Xed, an Electro Funk group from NY called Vinyl Life, and 2 unnamed tracks from a mysterious unnamed artist from the Open Concept Recordings label.

Here is the track list for my segment:

[unknown] - "[unknown]" {sneak sneak preview from OCR}
DJ Xed - "Elektro Rays"
Magnetic Bass Force - "Search & Destroy"
Q_iz - "Forever Friends"
Vinyl Life - "Hot Sauce"
Space - "Carry On, Turn Me On"
Luke Vibert - "Belief File"
Vinyl Life - "Future Beat"
DJ Xed - "Ozymatik"
Q_iz - "The Screen"

CATCHING UP!

Unfortunately, I have not been able to keep up with the podcasts of late. I am hoping that I will be back on top of them now. Here is the show from September 19th.

Dogtrane started out the show with an electrofied theme. He dropped a nice blend of Electronic Disco, some Electro, and even some Miami Bass.

On my segment I took over the Street Sounds Electro Chart duties for the week from Leeroy's The Projekt show. I played the full versions of all of the positive movers for the week.

Here is the track list for my segment:

Koova - "Click Track"
BMV - "Lefty Righty"
DJ Overdose - "Mossad Commando"
Microthol - "Binary System"
Microthol - "Fragile"
Kalson - "Like You"
J Double - "Dangerous (Supreme.Ja Remix)"
Rob Real - "Time Traveller"
Biepang - "Neon Parallels" [backing track for chart rundown]
Magnetic Bass Force - "Search & Destroy"

Dogtrane then decided to spin for an extra hour and dropped a solid set of party grooves and breaks. So this week we have a 3 hour podcast for your listening pleasure!

BOUT FUNKIN TIME!!!

Dogtrane opened up a big ol' can of funky whoop ass this week. He dropped an ultra grimy set of choice '70s Funk and Funky Disco from the likes of The Ohio Players, The Commodores, KC & The Sunshine Band, Funkadelic, Zapp and the list goes on. All done up in Dogtrane's inimitable style, inducing more than a few funky grunts, growls and utterances on the mic from yours truly. A funky trip not to be missed!

For my segment I complained rather loudly with what I am finding to be a boring turn and trend in Nu Electro at the moment. I decided to do my small part to counter this by for the most part playing tracks that I feel have gone against this trend. Definitely a different flavor to this one.

Here is the track list for my segment:

Teknophiliac - "Something Beautiful"
The Middle Men - "Unseen Beings"
Blastromen - "Metal Machine Victims"
DJR21 - "Robotek"
Gammachild - "Necronomicon"
Newcleus - "Jam On It (DJ Xed Remix)"
Mandroid - "Anti-Gravity Machines Remix"
Kalson - "Like You"
Electronic Confessions - "Time Morphs"
Leki - "Breakin' Out"

DJ DOGTRANE'S 20TH BIRTHDAY BASH!!!

This was another one of those funky Jam-On weekends, and boy did we rock! The house wasn't packed as per usual now that Summer is over and Fall is here, but we more than made up for it with 3 straight hours of some funky vibes!

The Birthday Boy started us off with a solid hour of dance music madness! From the classic to the obscure, he blended, sliced and mashed up a laundry list of Disco, House, Electro, Funk and all kinds of stuff in-between! Not a dull moment to be had!

For the middle segment I switched things up yet again! I started out with a brand new banger from Dr. Schmidt and a sneak peek at a hot track off of the Street Sounds Nu Electro Vol. 2 album by SKYBORG, but then went completely rogue on the format, laying down a personal mini-history of my musical encounters with the synth. Grabbing from such dissonant sources as the Ohio Players, Herbie Hancock and Kraftwerk, I attempted to show how all of those elements have played out in my own current work.

Here is the track list for my hour:

Dr. Schmidt - "Tremor Hall"
SKYBORG - "Drumbeats"
Ohio Players - "Funky Worm"
Stevie Wonder - "Too High"
Herbie Hancock - "Chameleon"
Kraftwerk - "Trans Europe Express"
Kraftwerk - "Metal On Metal"
Jean-Michel Jarre - "Oxygene Part II"
Newcleus - "Teknology 2 (2nd Rough)"

Dogtrane then came back in rare form to put the icing on his own cake! This time he hit us off with an hour of classic Hip-Hop, funky and hard! The chatroom was still packed, abuzz and jumpin' as he ripped up anthems from the likes of Eric B & Rakim, Brand Nubian, Public Enemy, Digital Underground, Run DMC and much MUCH more!!! A birthday present from Da 'Trane!

BACK TO DA BOOGEY!!!

We returned from our one week hiatus with a rockin' unique show! Trying to keep the momentum we had established on Dogtrane's Birthday Bash, we kept the vibe groovin' an' funky all show!

Dogtrane set it off with a solid hour of classic Hip-Hop, Funk and beats and grooves, all blended sliced and mashed up to your heart's delight! The response in the chatrooom was raucous as he bombed beats from Art Of Noise to Biggie to Grace Jones to Eric B & Rakim. Definitely a "rock dat azz" master class!

For my segment I featured current Electro with Funk flavoring, showcasing brand new standout releases from Mic Murphy & Melle Mel and Fatback 4Way. Once again, continuing on my quest to give some light on those Electro artists who are daring to make tracks with bass lines, melody, and even song structure and lyrics, I dropped a set of Electro that included tracks that may not get much play on other shows, but I think stand out nonetheless.

Here is the track list for my hour:

Black Tokyo - "Winter In Japan"
MC Chill & DJ Overdose - "Still Chill (Vocal With Scratch)"
Leki - "Breakin' Out"
Mic Murphy Feat. Grandmaster Melle Mel - "Electro Soul Satisfaction (Lloyd Da Zoid & Diplomat Mix)"
Artificial Arm - "Go Back In Time"
Fatback 4Way - "Generate Some Action"
Paul Hardcastle - "Hard As Hell (Remix)"
The Breakniks - "Doc Who?"
Cryotron - "Obey My Master (Rob Real 2.0 Mix)"
Dr. Schmidt - "Tremor Hall"

Definitely not one to be missed!

THAT FUNKY STREET SOUND!!!

Funk was definitely Dogtrane's main theme for this show as he started right out with a classic funk groove master from Donald Byrd. He then kept it movin' an' groovin with more Funk, Electro, a dose of Disco of course, and even threw in some Freestyle to top it all off. Groovy set!

For my segment I played all of the hot movers from this week's Street Sounds Electro Chart. I also run down the chart in its entirety, taking over this duty from Leeroy's The Project on GFR. We will have the pleasure of doing the same next week as well.

Here is the track list for the Street Sounds hour:

N-Ter - "Always Look So Easy" - #17 (New Entry)
Robodrum - "The Message" - #13

Well, after 9 long years the Yankees are world champs again, so Dogtrane set things off with some appropriate NY style Rap courtesy of Jay-Z and company. An historic set!

In my segment I played a grab bag of some of my favorite Nu Electro. Ranging from classic like Volsoc to brand spankin' new like the new Gods Of Technology, the set was as varied as it was funky!

It was Lady E's birthday this weekend, so with the house packed for the Queen Of Jam-On we decided to put on a special 3 hour show, and what a show it was! Guaranteed to be one of our most popular podcasts!

For his first segment Dogtrane laid down a sizzlin' set of classic Warehouse and Garage House. House anthems swirl and pound together seamlessly throughout the first hour, invoking memories of jam-packed clubs full of swaying, sweaty bodies. Superb set!

THE LOST PODCASTS!!! March 20th Thru April 24th

Well, just doing maintenance and catching up with the podcasts of the shows that we did following the Chilly B Tribute show. I was totally bummed out and out of it following Chilly's passing and never did find the time or strength to list these podcasts, even though the shows were uploaded.

In truth, I had grown weary of my end of the format, and had indeed found that playing most of the Nu Electro had helped to put me in a rut creatively. I was almost relieved to have the excuse to cancel the shows after Dogtrane ruptured his Achilles Tendon.

We will be back Saturday the 24th of July with all new shows and I will be going back to the original format of playing ALL kinds of DOPE music for my segment! Expect PLENTY of Funk and Jazz, but there will still be some Electro as well from time to time along with plenty of other stuff! As long as it's DOPE!

Here you go. No playlists, sorry!

Dogtrane took us on a mellow, jazzy journey today. I guess he's been vibin' with his pops a bit too much lately, LOL. Quite a unique set from him, with such varied artists as Heatwave and Herbie Hancock, Bob James and Chuck Mangione, and even a drop of Elton John! Then he touches it all off with some Disco. Astonishing!

I kept his vibe going by starting off with Disco but quickly took a Funk turn, with the prerequisite jazzy feel of course! Oh, and I topped it all off with the brand new Newcleus track which features the legendary Donald D of the B-Boys! Here's my playlist:

Salsoul Orchestra - "Runaway"
The Main Ingredient - "Happiness Is Just Around The Bend"
Donald Fagen - "Mary Shut The Garden Door"
Earth, Wind & Fire - "Can't Hide Love"
Jazzanova - "Another New Day"
John Tropea - "Tambourine"

I really like Me'Shell. I saw her live way back when she was touring to promote Plantation Lullabies. She's an amazing bassist, and I like that jazzy flavor to her music. I've kind of lost touch with what she's doing, though, so I have no idea whether I like what she's doing now.
I never could get into Groove Theory. I mean, I can't really bring myself to finish listening to one of their songs-- a friend of mine gave me Amel's solo album on mp3, and I think I ended up deleting it. Same with Maxwell; something about those two acts just seems watered-down and bland to me. To be honest, I think that a lot of the appeal of Amel Larrieux and Maxwell is in the way they look. I don't hear people talking about how good their music sounds, as much as I hear people talking about how good they look.

This is what got me on Amel: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SxXbuTLjsvk

It was the best of her, for me, though. The album is alright, but it didn't all hit me the way this song and video did. I wanted more just like it, and didn't feel that. Groove Theory I've always sort of casually liked, but not enough to get the albums.

I do like Plantation Lullabies for Me'shell. I've never heard something of hers and thought, "wow, that sucked". I'm always like... yeah, she's a really cool person. She seems so talented and original and intelligent. Those are traits that miss a lot of "artists". And she's strong, but still vulnerable. I like that.

I can get the whole "bland" feel being discussed, but not everyone is smash wow in your face. Maxwell is just some mellow r&b nice music. He's got a really good voice. I don't think he's that handsome, so I don't know if it's really his looks that he's riding on. I like the smoother r&b and things sometimes associated with "neo soul", so I'm not too picky there. If you play it, I'll listen to it and enjoy it. It's just nice on the ears.

Very late in the discussion of Groove Theory and Amel Lerieux, but I agree 100% with Elizabeth, "Get Up" is her best song by far. Groove Theory album is okay. I liked it.

December 4th Podcast

We had us a grab bag show this week, plenty of variety!

Dogtrane set things off with a Dog (what else?) Motif, using George Clinton's "Atomic Dog" as a base and branching out from there into all kinds funky directions! Dance, Funk, Electro, Hip-Hop, all of that and more are given the signature Dogtrane treatment! Phat and phunky!!!

I then follow with my own hodgepodge of what's funky, starting off with a double dose of '70s Blaxploitation funkiness then following with Nu Electro, classic Electro, jazzy Funk, funky Jazz, and just outright dopeness!!! . Here's my playlist:

Willie Hutch - "Brother's Gonna Work It Out"
Marvin Gaye - "T Plays It Cool"
Biepang - "Neon Parallels"
Incognito - "I Can See The Future (Ski's Main Mix)"
Donald Byrd - "The Little Rasti"
Freddie Hubbard - "First Light"
Roy Ayers Ubiquity - "Red Black & Green"
Paul Hardcastle - "Rain Forrest"

January 29th Podcast

OK, finally, time to get this podcast thing cranking again! Gonna try to catch up with 4 today!

This week we returned after a 2 week hiatus. Dogtrane starts things off with some classic funky R&B and mashes it right up with some Hip-Hop. He keeps that vibe going, complete with some eclectic delirium mashed in of course, then finishes off nicely with some classic Disco! That Dogtrane thang!

I follow up with a set of jazzy funkiness. I think that will be my prevailing theme for 2011. Here's my playlist:

Grover Washington Jr. - "Hydra"
Incognito - "Can't Get Enough"
Fred Wesley & The Horny Horns - "Four Play"
Patrice Rushen - "The Look Of Love"
Fela Kuti & Afrika 70 - "Sorrow, Tears & Blood"
Roy Ayers Ubiquity - "A Tear To A Smile"
Groove Collective - "Drunken Master"
Pat Metheny Group - "The Girls Next Door"
4Hero - "Blank Cells"

ENJOY!

February 5th Podcast

I was deep in a remix for Dr. Schmidt this week, so Dogtrane flew solo, though I did perform microphone duties. Of course it's a 2 hour mixed-up, mashed-up, sliced-up, funked-up hodgepodge of all types of genres, all thrown together Dogtrane style!

ENJOY!

February 12th Podcast

This week Dog got his House groove on! Lots of classic House 4 on the floor pounding bass, complete with the prerequisite Dogtrane mix-up mash-up madness! If you're fiendin' for some classic '80's - '90's House music all night long, the Dog has the cure for what ails you in pure and rare form!

I follow that with a set of some more select jazzy funky grooves. I cover a few different styles and even throw in an unreleased Jazz Funk track of my own. Here's my playlist:

Ramsey Lewis - "Brazilica"
George Duke - "That's What She Said"
Ben Cenac - "She Said (Alright Outa Site)"
Steely Dan - "Peg"
Roy Ayers Ubiquity - "The Golden Rod"
Eumir Deodato Feat. Novecento & Billy Cobham - "Rule My World"
Ronny Jordan - "5/8 In Flow"
Landau Orchestra - "Conceptions"
Johnny Hammond - "Can't We Smile"
The Crusaders - "Sweet 'N' Sour"
Cameo - "The Sound Table"
Jill Scott Feat. 4Hero - "Gotta Get Up"

February 19th Podcast

This week Dogtrane was in Brooklyn so I flew solo for the whole show. I had planned to do Disco, but couldn't pass up the opportunity to get into my favorite kind of groove for 2 hours. Think 3 words... Jazz... Funk... Fusion! Some emphasized more on the Jazz, some on the Funk, and a few on the Fusion. Even threw in one with a bit of Rock emphasis, and added 1 of my own unreleased tracks that is not available anywhere else at the moment, not even on our site! Here's my playlist:

Tropea - "Tambourine"
Bobbi Humphrey - "Harlem River Drive"
Lonnie Liston Smith & The Cosmic Echoes - "Devika (Goddess)"
Earth Wind & Fire - "Runnin'"
Hugh Masekela - "The Boy's Doin' It"
Vince Vellas Cuban Collective People - "Always Criticize Us"
Dexter Wansel - "Life On Mars"
The Crusaders - "I Felt The Love"
Stevie Wonder - "Too High"
Deodato - "Super Strut"
Ben Cenac - "Serengeti Nights"
George Duke - "Another Way To Look At It"
4Hero - "Sophia"
Tal Wilkenfeld - "Oatmeal Bandage"
Galactic - "Crazy Horse Mongoose"
Quincy Jones Feat. Bill Cosby - "Hikky Burr"
Herbie Hancock - "Steppin' In It"
Lonnie Smith - "For The Love Of It"
Alphonse Mouson - "Golden Rainbows"
